Wiebe Motel

We’d stayed here a few times over the last few years while working nearby. This time, when we went to check in, they quoted $150/night including taxes, even though online sites showed $70/night. When we questioned the rate, they kicked us out and locked the door. The room was generally dirty, with roaches, and the beds were soiled, so we used our own bedding. The towels were tiny, about the size of washcloths, and we brought our own. The owners live at the motel and regularly smoke weed outside. It felt like they tried to bait and switch whenever they could. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s the cheapest motel in town, but I still expected more for the money. The room seemed clean and had a nice tile bathroom and decent linoleum, but the bed was quite soiled memory foam, and the pillows were cheap and spongy. The towels were in very bad condition, though the staff were friendly. There’s barely any furniture: no lamps, just a bright overhead light, no desk under the TV, and no nightstands. It looks like they ran out of money while furnishing the rooms. If they added the furniture and replaced the beds, pillows, and towels, it would be much more comfortable and deserve more stars.

The hosts were nice, and the room had been restored and was clean and quiet. It still needs some finishing details. There was no deadbolt on the front door, and the bathroom window looked like it had been left over from the sixtys. It needs replacing and couldn’t be locked. They supplied two towels but no washcloths.

I booked a room because nothing else nearby was available, then arrived late after realizing Hollister was much farther away than I’d thought. The door had a closed sign and there was no staff around. I rang the bell, called their number, and ended up sleeping in my car in their lot. I left at 7 AM. At 8, the property told me they’d been there all night, but no one had answered. They refused to refund me, saying I should have known, even though I can’t find anything in the confirmation email saying the whole motel closed at 11 PM. I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known.
