Best Western Okemos/East Lansing Hotel & Suites

The breakfast ladies were wonderful, so attentive, and the food was absolutely amazing. I also enjoyed the warm pool and its sunroom with plants, though it got crowded on weekend nights. I went in the morning instead and had the place to myself for about an hour, which was lovely. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were nice. I wasn’t keen on the connecting rooms, though. I could hear the people next door talking even though they weren’t loud, and as a younger woman traveling alone, that felt like a privacy issue.

The kids had a great time in the huge pool, and the staff were great. There just didn’t seem to be enough of them for a hotel this size. Our room had an odor and was kind of dirty, with lots of crumbs left under the ottomans. The TV didn’t work either. When we called the front desk, there were no other rooms available, though they offered cleaning supplies so we could clean it ourselves. We asked for a manager and were told there wasn’t one on site, but someone would call us. Nobody did. We’ll think twice before staying here again.

Save your money. The room was filthy, with socks and crumbs under the pullout couch, more crumbs on the bed, and food all over the island stools and beneath the island. The bedroom mirror had some unknown stuff splattered on it, with a streak running down it. There was dust, filthy fingerprints, and food stuck to the counters. The TV screens were streaky, something white was stuck to the bedroom door and the wall near the mirror, and there were things on the ceilings. The shower ceiling was peeling and coming down. Behind the toilet was filthy, and sitting there, I could smell strong urine. Dust was everywhere. I also found an unidentifiable pill on the floor. When I used the coffee maker, the water for my tea came out brown. I paid for a 2 pm late checkout instead of the usual 11 am, but housekeeping knocked at 11:30 am and again at 1 pm. Around checkout time I’d loaded everything into my car and came back inside to use the bathroom. I was shocked when the bathroom door opened, and it was housekeeping again. I’d love a full refund, but I doubt that’ll happen.

The good parts were a quiet room and decent breakfast on the weekend. The breakfast staff were nice too. That’s about it, lol. We last stayed here 16 years ago, and it’s had some updates, but still feels old. The couch was threadbare, and I found wax on the wall, the jacuzzi handles, and the TV cabinet in the main room. Water leaked out from beneath the shower door because it had no seal, pooling on the bathroom floor. The fridge froze everything in its bottom half, and the bed was rock hard. The outside doors wouldn’t close all the way, either stuck open a crack or propped open by someone, which didn’t feel safe. It’s decent, but old, and definitely not a 4 star experience. Lots of cons.
