Motel 6 Birmingham, AL

Inside was much better than the outside looked, and otherwise the stay was okay. My room, though, was very smoky and I didn't like it. I assumed the whole motel was that way, so I never asked to switch. My parents were in another room that wasn't smoky at all, so I should've asked to move.

The rates were reasonable, but there were a lot of problems. We booked online for two QUEEN beds and got two FULL size beds instead. The beds were very stiff and uncomfortable, the microwave didn't work, and the water pressure was abysmal with a loose shower handle. I also saw signs of cockroaches, cracked bathroom paint, and no exhaust fan. The $50 refundable deposit wasn't mentioned on the website. Doors around the property kept sticking, so other guests were constantly slamming them, and the wifi either didn't work or barely worked at the back of the building.

The door locks kept acting up from the moment we arrived, and I had to get the lady to come open it for us several times. The place was filthy. My child took off her shoes and they were caked with black dirt and nastiness. The bathroom had grime built up over time, the tub was so disgusting I wouldn't let my kids use it, and the walls looked like they had urine on them. I have pictures of the room. This place needs new management or to be shut down.

We got out of there in a hurry the next morning. The room smelled horrible, with mold in the air conditioning vents, stained dirty sheets and blankets, and holes in the walls. There were visible swipes of blood and who-knows-what on the bathroom walls that nobody had cleaned, plus a used bar of soap in the shower and a filthy shower floor, shower walls, and toilet. There was no refrigerator or microwave, and no amenities at all. Check-in started with rude staff who showed no personality or customer service. From arrival to departure, the whole place was a disgusting disappointment. I travel for work a lot and have stayed in probably thousands of hotels, and this is one of the five worst. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.
