Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach

The room and bed were comfortable, clean, and fresh, with good natural light and a balcony. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite on the 9th floor facing Kuhio Ave at Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki. It was a short walk to Waikiki Beach, with shops, restaurants, and transport close by. We liked the pool and bar area as a place to relax. There was some street noise because of the central location, but it wasn’t too much and didn’t disturb our sleep. A couple of small annoyances: the bathroom water pressure was quite low, and the kitchenette was very limited, with no kettle, cutlery, or plates. The suite could use those. The bed made for a great night’s sleep, and we had a very pleasant stay.

We stayed for two weeks while our son was in the hospital, and I’d definitely come back. It’s a short walk to everything you need in Waikiki. The room was clean, the air conditioning cool, and the towels unstained, so we had a great stay. There was one time when no one had been to our room for a few days. I called the front desk, and they sent someone twice to make sure it had been refreshed the way we wanted. The front desk staff were helpful and great. I’m not sure why there are so many bad reviews.

The location is a bright spot if you want to be in the middle of Waikiki’s activity, and the staff were polite and kind. But this was the worst Marriott property I’ve stayed at by far. I travel often for work and personal trips, in hotels at many price points around the world, and I usually choose Marriott because I’ve been consistently happy with the room design, cleanliness, service, and amenities. Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach fell well below those standards. The rooms felt grungy, were very small and dated, and the bathroom was so cramped you could barely turn around. The shower was tiny and claustrophobic, with very low water pressure. One elevator was out of service, adding to the inconvenience. At checkout, their system wasn’t working properly, making an already frustrating stay harder. I wouldn’t stay here again and would look elsewhere, even within Marriott.

Matt at the front desk worked so hard and was amazing to us all week. We really appreciated how friendly and welcoming he was. The room was very clean and had what we needed, with a comfy bed, free in-room coffee, a nice shower, and good hotel amenities. The location is great, and it’s an affordable stay without giving up amenities. We especially liked the complimentary towels and sunscreen on site. We didn’t get to use the free rentals at Twin Fin or the GoPros, but we’ll try them next time. The main downside was noise through the thin, single-pane balcony doors and from the hallway. Music and talking by the pool and hotel bar were loud most nights, though we could overlook it since it stopped promptly around 10pm when the pool closed. We had a great week in Hawaii and will definitely stay again next visit. Thanks again :)
