The Equus

Our king suite had a balcony, and though I chose not to get a water view, it sat high enough in the trees that I could sit outside mostly out of sight and watch Hawaii’s beautiful birds. The place felt like home for the week, and I’m grateful to everyone at the Equus. The front desk team were amazing, friendly, understanding, and accommodating. After a 13.5-hour flight and picking up a rental car, my family started arguing about plans I’d arranged months earlier, and I was done with it. The young woman at the desk was especially kind and understanding. We were also within walking distance of attractions, dining, the beach and water activities, plus shopping malls and a corner store.

The location was hard to access, which made a bad stay worse. For four nights, I paid another $253.84 in resort and parking charges. The old, dirty carpet was so unpleasant that I had to wear slides indoors, and without a microwave we ended up wasting food. For a supposed four-star hotel, it was poorly maintained and felt more like a motel. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

I had a great stay about a month ago, so I was surprised to read some of the recent reviews. My room was clean and nice, the service was great, and I enjoyed the bar. I’ll definitely come back.

The room was comfortable, clean, and had no unpleasant smell. What first put us at ease, though, was the warm welcome from the local woman at the front desk. She also pointed us to a poke bowl shop, and it turned out to be the best poke we’ve ever had. We went back several times because it was so good, and honestly better and cheaper than the versions at restaurants or well-known cafés. We’d love to stay here again next time we visit Honolulu, and I hope we see her again.
