The Palms Cliff House Inn

The heat made it hard to sleep. After a full day hiking and exploring, we were looking forward to cooling off, but the room was hotter than outside and stayed that way even after a cold shower. There was no air conditioning. I know many places in Hawaii don't have it, but at over $200 a night I honestly expect AC. Even a small portable unit would have helped. It was a pretty big problem on a hot day, so we'd come back only in cooler weather. The grounds and house are beautiful, breakfast was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the rooms were large and in nice shape. It's a five-star bed and breakfast, but we had a three-star experience, so I'm averaging it out to four.

The price per night was the only downside for me. I know B&Bs can cost more, but I think they might fill the place if they lowered it a bit. This beautiful location should be shared with more people. We stayed one night while passing through Hilo. The woman who checked us in and served breakfast the next morning was sweet and kind. She showed us around and explained everything about the property. We didn't meet the owners, but she did a wonderful job welcoming us. Our Hawaiian Views room had a lovely ocean view, and it was wonderful falling asleep and waking to the sound of the ocean. We loved the suite's spa, which fit both of us, so neither had to wait to relax after a day at Volcano National Park. Just be aware that roosters may wake you if you leave the slider or windows open.

For our anniversary staycation, we booked an upper room with a beautiful view. It had a king bed, a small sitting area, and a little air conditioner that was a welcome addition. The large walk-in shower had plenty of hot water. Breakfasts were delicious, and our hosts were gracious and friendly. It was peaceful and relaxing, and we'll definitely plan another visit.

Rainy weather made the heated room especially welcome during our stay. We had a spacious, perfect room with a gas chimney that added a nice bit of ambience. The house itself is lovely, with a beautiful garden, and the owners were very nice. They made breakfast each morning. Thanks for a perfect stay!
