Residence Inn by Marriott Birmingham/Hoover

We were leaving a concert at 11 at night, five hours from home, with nowhere to stay after the hotel canceled our room. I’d booked three months ahead using reward points and a Marriott credit card. At 6:30 that evening, they called to say the reservation was canceled because the card had expired, even though the points had secured the payment. They could have asked for a card for incidentals at check-in, but instead they had an excuse to cancel and sell the room. The receptionist didn’t seem to care that we were stranded and hung up on me. I was upset, but I wasn’t rude or disrespectful. When I called back, she finally answered but wouldn’t give me her name. I’m a Gold member, and this was so disappointing that I’m canceling my credit card and will do everything I can to avoid staying at a Marriott again.

We had four adults and booked a two-bedroom room. There are lots of good places to eat nearby, and the hotel is in very good condition. The complimentary breakfast was convenient. I recommend it.

We stayed two nights and the room wasn’t serviced, which is my only complaint. Maybe you have to ask for housekeeping. The hotel was clean, and breakfast had several choices, much more than a basic continental spread. Great experience, and I’d highly recommend it.

I spent almost a year at The Residence Inn, and the staff made it feel like home. They went out of their way to help me get comfortable, and over time they became close friends. Everyone, from the concierge who found dinner reservations that seemed impossible to get to the careful housekeeping team, was warm and professional. The suite was spotless, with city views, plush bedding, and modern climate controls. Dinner was a highlight, with lovely food and a magical sunset setting, and the facilities offered a peaceful break from the city. From the elegant lobby to the comfortable room, the whole stay felt spectacular. It’s an immersive hospitality experience, and the value for such a long stay was unmatched. This hotel is awesome!
