It's in a great downtown location, and the upper floors have a nice view of the ski hill and the old copper mine on the Hancock side. The pool, hot tub, and sauna are nice. Our room was clean, and breakfast was decent, with hard boiled eggs, cereal, donuts, and other things. Many people might think the place needs renovation, and it is under way, but I've always loved this hotel. It's always my first choice in Houghton.

For $90, this place felt like it was worth about $40. The only positive I can find is that it was decently clean. The sheets seemed clean, too. There was no coffee ready in the morning, and there were food stains on the curtain and dirt marks on the walls. There was absolutely nowhere to park near the hotel. Guests with dozens of snowmobiles were allowed to take all the nearby spots, so my husband, my 2 yr old, my 3 month old, and I had to leave the car almost a quarter of a mile away in 10 degree weather. At $90, the Super 8 costs the same and is EONS nicer and more accommodating to guests.

It was clean and cheap, so it worked as a place to stay. The building is actually an old motel with a plastic "window" facade added around it, and in winter the hallways were freezing. You could also hear people as they walked by outside your room.

The hotel was run down and water damaged. Housekeeping was terrible, and we had to get new or updated keys every day. Our first room on the fourth floor smelled so bad that we asked to move. My sister's room next door, room 304, smelled so strongly of cat urine it made your eyes burn. After we kept asking them to fix it, someone eventually brought up an air purifier. We asked several times to speak to management, then had to ask them to take our information so management could get back to us. Management never showed up.

The Travelodge is family operated, with a great staff team. The owners are loving, kind, and honest people. Clean rooms, a pool, sauna, and hot tub make it a great place to stay, lay your head down, and relax. Can't find a better place to be.
