Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Houston NE

This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and I’m ashamed I went there. It’s definitely not “America’s best.” The property is run down and poorly maintained, with terrible sheets, towels, pillows, and other basic amenities. I didn’t see signs of bed bugs or roaches, but I still wouldn’t recommend it. There wasn’t even a phone in the room to call the front desk. Those days were an experience I never want to repeat. The place needs to be torn down.

I’m used to choosing cheap motels when I travel, so I knew where this one was and came for a weekend. But $65 a night was hard to justify for the condition of the room. The floor, sofa, walls, doors, windows, and furniture were dirty; the tub had soap scum and hair. The thin comforter had cigarette burns, and when I pulled back the sheets, there was hair underneath the made bed. The bed itself was soft and slept pretty well, and surprisingly I didn’t find bed bugs. I did have a key card, but the outside ice machine was kind of dirty. After midnight, two junkies knocked on my door. The place looked like locals might be living there permanently, so I wouldn’t call it a good spot for travelers.

For a budget hotel with no frills, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the quiet area meant we barely heard the other guests. There were cigarette burns on the bed cover and something like white paint on the mini fridge, but otherwise things looked fine. A friendly stray cat wandered around the parking lot and followed us up to the second floor. I’d recommend it for a few nights if you want somewhere cheaper.

Check-in and checkout through Expedia were easy, and we had a pleasant stay and a good rest. The location was okay despite highway noise across the way, and the LED accent lights looked cool at night. The room looked nicely and recently remodeled. The parking lot got crowded at night, though we had no problems. My two complaints were dirty A/C filters, which we sanitized with Lysol, and the need for deeper cleaning around the loveseat, behind the counters, and under the bed.
