Comfort Suites Houston near Medical Center- NRG Stadium

The rooms were nice, the price was reasonable, and the hotel is close to the medical district. I appreciated that they hired a security guard for the cars at night, and all the hotel entrances are locked overnight. Still, the surrounding area made me concerned about safety. This was my first visit to Houston, and I hadn’t realized how many homeless people there were around the city. Many seemed to have serious mental health or drug issues. There were several around the hotel, on the property, and even in the lobby. As I unloaded my car, a man came close, sat on the curb, then lay down for a nap. In the lobby, another man sat in a chair and spoke gibberish to my husband. I also saw someone enter the lobby and leave a few minutes later. Ash at the front desk didn’t do anything about the man sitting there. The $5 daily parking charge is to pay for a guard to watch cars at night because they’re often broken into. Based on reviews, that seems to have been a major problem before, so I do appreciate the security. Breakfast was pretty poor. I wish they had paper plates and bowls instead of Styrofoam, so I could have microwaved the oatmeal.

The hallways were really quiet, which helped us get some peace and enjoy our stay. The hotel and our room were clean, and the room felt spacious and welcoming. I wasn’t too keen on the bed, since the mattress was firmer than I like and the pillows were flat and a bit small. The toilet flushed well, but it was pretty loud, lol.

My room was comfortable, and the shower had a good head, plenty of hot water, and strong pressure. I can’t think of a single thing to complain about. Having Pappas BBQ next door mattered more to me than being near the hospital where I had my procedure done. 😀 I booked online, then called to ask about checking in early because the procedure would leave me wobbly and sleepy once the anesthesia wore off. When my friend dropped me at the hotel, the young man at the front desk wouldn’t charge me for early check-in. He said getting rest after the procedure was more important. Everyone was that friendly. Their effort to make me feel welcome means I’ll stay here again. You could argue this isn’t a five-star hotel, but after that experience I couldn’t give it less.

The room with the Jacuzzi was so relaxing. Everything else was great too, with clean rooms, friendly professional staff who always smiled, breakfast, and hot coffee.
