As an Ambassador of the brand, I expected this Intercontinental to be more like the global properties. The room was very good, the property was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were helpful during my stay. Still, the building shows its age and needs a refresh. Breakfast was decent and the food was good, but I expected an omelette or egg station and more vegetables and cold cuts. I had to ask for tea several times. The gym and pool were too small and limited for a meaningful workout. The location is a downside, quite far from Houston’s key landmarks, though having a car helped. After I left, staff couldn’t explain a charge on my bill. I’ve since made countless calls and sent emails asking what the billing charges are for, and no one has answered. I changed my rating to one star. It’s disgraceful, and shows a lack of respect and professionalism from hotel management and staff. I look forward to seeing improvements at what is a great hotel brand.

The location made getting around easy. The hotel is within walking distance of the MDA Medical Center and close to Rice University and the Houston Zoo. I also appreciated the free shuttle around the local area, and the outdoor pool was a refreshing bonus. The onsite restaurant and bar had great food and drinks. Check-in was smooth, with welcoming, attentive staff from the moment I arrived. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with modern amenities that made it easy to relax after a long day. Thanks to Abdulaziz and Abdul for their kindness. I had a fantastic stay at InterContinental Houston by IHG and highly recommend it.

We’ve loved staying here in the past, but we’ll be going to Blossom or Double Tree from now on. For the past seven months, we’ve come almost weekly to MD Anderson for my husband’s clinical trial, and he’s also had a couple of inpatient stays while battling stage 4 colon cancer. The hotel used to provide complimentary water, which helped when he had to drink 50 ounces before labs. Now they only offer aluminum bottles for $10, saying it’s part of going green. I understand the reason, but when you’re up all night drinking water, you don’t want to leave the room to refill. At 10:30 at night, I asked the front desk about buying several regular bottles. He directed me to walk four blocks to CVS while my sick husband was in the room. I returned and asked for the manager. She said they could have driven me on the shuttle if it had been earlier, but explained the hotel will never offer plastic water bottles for purchase.

We had a gorgeous nighttime view from the balcony in room 335, and the staff were friendly and attentive all around, from housekeeping to valet. Johnetta and Arnez served us brunch and were top tier. The brunch downstairs was AMAZING, and manager Tryston was so accommodating and took great care of us over the weekend. We’ll definitely come back!

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and this is definitely a nice hotel. We stayed over the weekend for a wedding, but I’m giving it one star because the water was shut off for almost three hours during the day on Saturday. I was halfway through a shower with shampoo in my hair when it suddenly stopped. Staff didn’t clearly explain why it happened or when the water would return. I had to ask them to bring bottles of water up so I could rinse my hair before the wedding. The hotel didn’t offer compensation or a discount, and communication around the shutoff was poor.
