Moxy Houston Downtown

The Moxy made the whole stay feel fun, and I’d happily come back! You check in at the bar and get tokens for drinks, and there are games in the lobby if you want to hang out with friends. They’ve also got a gym, and the closets on the floors are handy for grabbing towels, toiletries, irons, and other things. My room was super clean, and housekeeping came every day while I was there. The housekeeping ladies had great attitudes, and everyone on staff was helpful and friendly. I ordered the wings too, and they were huge and really good. I’m a heavy sleeper, so the noise other reviews mention didn’t bother me. Thanks to the staff at the Moxy! ☺️🥳🥳❤️

The staff were friendly and helpful, and I could get free coffee from the bar setup. That was about it for me. The room was small, felt cheap, and had thin bedding and little thin towels. The wall pictures were held up with metal clips and didn’t have frames. There wasn’t a coffee maker or fridge in the room either. Noise was the bigger problem. The club next door played music so loudly starting Friday that earplugs and my sound machine turned all the way up still couldn’t block the thumping. I worked from the hotel through the week, and the walls were so thin I could hear conversations, TV, hookups, and even the neighbor using the bathroom. There was no privacy. The hotel aims for a “fun” atmosphere and encourages “play,” but it felt like a club environment, which isn’t for me. I won’t stay at this Marriott brand again.

We got no sleep at all. The room temperature kept swinging hot and cold, and the mattress was extremely hard and sagged in the middle, with no comfort or support. The noise was just as bad. We could hear the people next door taking medicine, showering, and talking as if they were in our room. The bar beside the hotel played loud music all night, and it sounded like we were inside it. There’s clearly no sound insulation. At check-in, the hotel and room were clean and everything went smoothly. After that, the stay was horrible. Between the noise, temperature, and bed, I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it to anyone looking for rest or comfort.

The rooms were clean and well maintained, and I knew they’d be small and unusual. But there are no amenities like a fridge or coffee. The location is between two nightclubs, so the DJ music and bass thump with no escape, and the train runs late and keeps ringing its bell. I arrived late and the staff member seemed not to want to deal with me. When I asked the next day to change rooms because of the noise, they acted like it was a bother, then put me in a room that was even louder. Nobody said hello or seemed to care. One bartender working Saturday night was sweet and friendly. This is probably the worst Marriott I’ve stayed at. I stay almost exclusively at Marriotts and usually get a survey after checkout, but this hotel never sent one. Not surprised. Read the other reviews, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
