Sonesta Essential IAH Airport JFK Boulevard

United Airlines gave me a voucher after a delay caused me to miss my connecting flight. The front desk staff were kind, and let me check out a little later since my new flight wasn't until the evening. The place looks newly renovated, with new floors, and the room was surprisingly spacious. The bed was huge, and I really enjoyed my stay. The only downside was an elevator that could've used some fresh air.

The staff were great and ready to help with airport rides. They pick up at Terminal C, but you need to ask for the shuttle when you check in and book a time. There's no automatic service. Register the day before for a morning ride, and it's prompt. Expect the trip to the airport to take about 20-30 minutes. Patel at the desk was friendly and helpful, probably worth half a star on his own. It's close to the airport, so planes fly over late and start up early. The hotel is fine for a night at roughly $70-$90, but don't expect a Renaissance or Ritz Carlton. It gets the job done, and given the other United options we'd seen, including reviews about cars being burgled repeatedly and moldy walls, I was content. United really ought to switch airlines, but here we are. For $70-$80, expecting much more is a bit much. My room felt like an apartment and had standard amenities, Wi-Fi, and complimentary continental breakfast. Breakfast was decent, and the pancake machine was fun, just don't accidentally make 11 when you meant to make one. The marketplace items cost around $5 each, pricey but about the same as Marriott or Renaissance. The building has former apartment complex vibes. The elevator worked fine, though it looked a little sketchy and could use cosmetic attention. The room numbers were confusing too: on the fourth floor, a sign points to rooms 401-420, but 402 is left, while 404 is the first room you see. Rooms 401 and 403 are further down, and 402 is tucked around the corner. A sign pointing left to 402 would help. Accessibility notes: the shower and bath combo had a grab bar. The beds are about four inches taller than normal, so keep that in mind. Check things like whether the toilet seat is loose. That was my only room issue, and the front desk was happy to help. The hotel could touch up some paint in the lobby and hallways, and give the elevator some cosmetic work, but those are appearance issues.

The shuttle was simple to arrange at check-in, and it showed up on time every 30 minutes. Of the three hotels United Airlines offered me, this was the best. The staff were kind and patient, and the bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included, and meal vouchers work there. My room had a microwave and a small fridge. It had been remodeled, though the work wasn’t great, with grout missing from the tiles. The elevator could use some care, and the soundproofing wasn’t very good.

After my flight was cancelled, I wound up at Sonesta Essential IAH JFK. The staff were so friendly and made a bad day much easier. The room was quiet, tidy, and comfortable, with floors that looked freshly redone and gave it a more modern feel. For a hotel near the airport, it was much better than I expected. The service was great and the rooms were clean. I’d stay again.
