Tru by Hilton Houston Downtown Convention Center

The rooms were quiet enough for the good night's sleep I needed before running the Houston Marathon. I could sometimes hear guests opening and shutting doors, but the walls blocked most noise. It's also dog-friendly, judging by the guests I saw with dogs. My family and I had a wonderful stay, with great service, a lovely room, and a nice atmosphere. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the George R Brown Convention Center and very close to the Toyota Center. Parking isn't free, though that's typical of Downtown Houston hotels. I'll book with Tru again when I run the Houston Marathon.

The charges were a mess. We were charged before the trip, at check-in, and again while leaving. At check-in, we asked if anything else would be charged and were told only valet. At checkout they tried to charge us almost $1,000 and $450, and after we asked about it, the front desk just said it would eventually drop off. We were double charged on the last day too, with other unexplained charges. The Thursday night front desk clerk was extremely rude. We had questions, and he actually sighed while answering the phone. The rooms were filthy for what we paid, with dirty bathrooms and handprints above the bed's headboard. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you want to avoid a headache. Go somewhere else.

Mohammed was such a delight. He was always cheerful, welcoming, and helpful with our car and bags. He made the trip more enjoyable, and we'll stay here again just to see him.

The hotel was peaceful and well looked after, and its location made it easy to get to restaurants, shops, and local attractions. After busy days, it was a relaxing place to come back to. Check-in went smoothly, and the team kept making an effort to help me feel comfortable. My room was spotless, spacious, and cozy enough to feel like home. This was one of my best stays in years, and I'd happily recommend it for the cleanliness, comfort, and service.
