TownePlace Suites by Marriott Huntsville

I booked the TownePlaza suites in a hurry because I needed to get to Huntsville to care for my 91 year old mother in law. As Gold Elite Bonvoy members, we used the app and chose it for the location without checking reviews. The room was so run down it was hard to believe: duct tape held the carpet down, the closet door wouldn't stay shut, and cabinets were chipped and broken. I was traveling alone and needed to get to the hospital, so switching hotels wasn't an option. I sent my concerns through the app and still haven't heard back. I'm on day 3 of a 5 night stay, and only this morning did I ask for trash to be taken and fresh towels. Nobody had asked whether I wanted cleaning or supplies. The pool has been marked closed all week and locked with a chain, so I couldn't sit outside there before visiting my mother in law. It's astonishing. I usually write positive travel reviews, so this is a real exception. Don't stay here. One bright spot is a very nice young woman at the front desk who loaned me a corkscrew and greets me when I return late from the hospital.

The women at the front desk were very nice, but the stay itself was bad enough that I think it should be comped. I had to clear out things the previous guest had left in my room, and showed the front desk what was there. I asked to move because I honestly thought someone might still be in the room. In the next room, the TV was blaring, so I worried someone was there too. I knocked, then opened the door, but the weed smell was so strong I couldn't fully go in. It was already 8pm and I just wanted food and sleep, so I went back to the first room and cleaned it out myself. This property should be embarrassed to carry the Marriott name. I'm a travel agent and had considered sending work guests here, but I absolutely won't. I've also given Marriott my feedback.

Don't stay there if you don't want your card charged multiple times after you've left and checked out. I paid what I was supposed to for my stay, and I'm upset that my card keeps being charged. To me, this is fraud. Lisa was the only helpful front desk person, though even her attitude this morning wasn't right. Vanessa had a nasty attitude. I could say more, but there's no need. Be warned.

The hotel was great, but Lynette and Chrissy at the front desk were the real help. Some unexpected things happened on my trip and threw me off course, and they helped me make all the changes I needed. They were always friendly and helpful, and it's clear they care about people and doing their jobs well. They made a pretty bad situation much easier than it could have been. Truly grateful.
