Holiday Inn Express Winfield by IHG

This Holiday Inn is the best of the MANY we’ve stayed at, hands down. The place feels different, like home, and the little store has the most variety. The breakfast buffet is better than at other Holiday Inns we’ve tried and always stocked, with all the teas kept full too. The rooms are the cleanest. The staff are incredible. Lisa, the night desk clerk, was so friendly and accommodating, with the best hospitality we’ve experienced. Sarah is just as amazing, and Jennifer in housekeeping is top tier. West Virginia is known for friendliness and kindness, and this team represents WV and Holiday Inns perfectly. You’ve got a gem here!

After a month living in different hotels, this one is high on our list. We were traveling from North Carolina to Indiana when car trouble forced us to stay in the area, and our company booked us at Holiday Inn Express Winfield. The hotel felt modern compared with places we’d been, and it was clean and comfortable. There are stores across the road, plus a nearby gas station and little Arby's. The small front lot has more parking in back, though we couldn’t see a convenient rear entrance. The employees were all nice and helpful, and we’d happily stay again. Our room had several lighting options and a wall thermostat that worked well. The beds, sheets, and pillows felt luxurious, and the bed was quiet when we rolled over. We liked having the sink inside the bathroom, which was a good size with a large counter and exhaust fan. We barely heard noise from other rooms or the hall. The fitness room was one of the best we’ve seen. It’s not large, but had a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, weight bench, full dumbbell set, exercise ball, bosu balance trainer, mats, TV, and beam scale. The thermostat worked well, and there’s a window overlooking the indoor pool. Breakfast was good and well attended, with eggs, meats, pastries, bagels, yogurt, cereal, pancakes from a maker, juice, and coffee. Unlike the coffee makers at the other hotels we’d stayed in that month, this one seemed to grind beans and brew it fresh. There was also a nice tea selection, different creamers, sweeteners, and half & half.

The staff and managers had nasty attitudes and were unwelcoming, on the phone and in person. I was exhausted after driving all night and needed a break. This was the closest hotel I could find, but I chose to sleep in my car instead of giving my money to an unaccommodating host. Stephanie, who answers the phone, didn’t come across as inviting to hotel guests. When I spoke to manager Melony, she was sarcastic and literally lied to get me off the phone quickly.

A lot of people staying here are taking cruises, and it’s a convenient place for that. There isn’t much within walking distance, though. The only nearby option on foot is Islamorada Fish restaurant.
