Ramada by Wyndham Cleveland Independence

We gave up the money and left. The hall smelled so strongly of marijuana that I worried it would get into our clothes, and the whole place felt grim and run down. There were holes in dirty, yellowed walls, tile floors, and police cruisers pulling up as we were leaving the lobby. It had the feel of a 1950s mental health institution you'd want to escape. At check-in, the lobby was dim and dungeon-like. The front desk employee ignored us for about two minutes while talking with a coworker, then kept chatting about clogged toilets and another employee as she checked us in. We asked for an extra towel, but she said the laundry hadn't arrived and there were no clean ones. The elevator was broken too. We were assigned a third-floor room and couldn't switch to the first floor because none were available. Another employee said it had just broken and should be fixed that day. The two employees we saw weren't in branded clothes, and the desk service was a joke. There was one broken vending machine, though a few snacks and water were for sale at the desk. If you're looking for a respectable place, don't stay here. I'd recommend the Laquinta across the highway, or the Comfort Inn, Holiday inn, or springhill suites.

The parking situation was bad enough that we watched several people arrive, turn around, and go to another hotel. On February 3rd and 4th, 2026, we saw and helped multiple drivers stuck in the lot in heavy snow that hadn't been plowed. One woman waited four hours for roadside help and a winch-out because the snow and ice were over 8 inches deep. The sloped spaces on the side were just packed down by 4x4s, and the rear parking area hadn't been plowed at all. I barely got through it in my 4x4 truck. I can't speak to the service from a stay, but I tried calling the front desk after I left to alert them. At 2am, the phone rang for 90 seconds without an answer. If they don't look after the parking where guests are meant to leave their cars, can you trust the hotel's service and quality? I can't imagine anyone responding in an emergency. All around, a bad experience. I won't book here, and neither will my friends or family.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and clearly trying hard. They'd get five stars from me, and my complaints aren't about them. The room was usable for the price, a little better than a basic motel, though nothing fancy. Breakfast was very limited: yogurt, cereal, bagels, and small muffins, with no hot food. In winter, the room felt drafty even though it wasn't cold, so I'd turn the heat up early. There was a large wet patch in the hallway throughout our stay with no explanation. The elevators also made me uneasy and seemed to need maintenance. The pool only opens after checkout, so with a one-night stay we couldn't use it and I can't comment on it. We paid about $100 for the night, which seems reasonable these days. I was disappointed, but not upset. It's fine for a quick, budget stay and somewhere to sleep while visiting Cleveland, especially if you're younger. It does feel worn down, understaffed, and neglected right now, though I think better management and upkeep could bring it back.

The good parts were the location and the restaurant attached to the hotel. Inside, though, the place needs a complete overhaul. There was trash under my bed, stained curtains, no lamp shade, and missing handles on a lot of things. One room had a fridge and the other didn't. We asked about using a microwave on our last day and were told we should have one in the room, but we didn't. The elevator felt scary, and its floor numbers didn't match the floor we were on. Most of the luggage trolleys had flat tires. Breakfast was just bagels and toast, and the dining room was cold as hell.
