Wyndham Independence

The daytime staff were nice, but the hotel itself was dirty. The carpets, elevator, floors, and rooms all needed cleaning, and I had to use my own cleaner on the room. I checked in an hour after check-in time and the room still wasn’t ready. When I finally got in, there were socks and rose petals around, and the bathroom shelf was dusty. I asked for sheets and a comforter for the sofa bed, but they had no cover to give me, so I had to order bedding for my child from Walmart. This Wyndham was nothing like the one in Irving, Texas. I also saw the staff member with the nose ring being very rude to an elderly guest. I don’t think I’ll come back. If they’re short staffed, they can hire me and I’ll show them how to detail clean rooms.

Breakfast was a letdown. The hotel was supposed to have a restaurant and bar area with complimentary breakfast, then paid lunch and dinner, and we were given a paper listing the meal times. But on our last day, I went down for breakfast and found out the restaurant was closed until the 15th. Nobody mentioned that at check-in. There were small muffins and coffee at the desk, which was fine, but guests should be told about the closure instead of handed a schedule for restaurant meals. The room itself smelled like weed, as did the whole fifth floor. I’d requested a ground-floor room because I can’t use elevators, but they put us on the fifth floor. I didn’t complain since I could take the stairs. There was water damage on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, and stained carpet. The bathroom was so small that with the door open, it was hard to get to the tub. The wall-mounted shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion bottles were full-size, which would have been fine if they weren’t empty. The next day housekeeping didn’t refresh the room or leave fresh towels, coffee packets, or empty the trash. When I called the desk, I was told to come pick up supplies myself. I’ve worked in hotels, and that’s not how hospitality should work. The younger man at the desk was friendly and helpful when I walked down five flights to get them, though. This really isn’t a great hotel, and I’d stay clear unless they remodel and upgrade everything.

After a 10-hour drive, I arrived at Wyndham Independence at 12:30 am, only to be told they were full and had no rooms because they’d taken a lot of walk-ins. I’d booked two nights weeks earlier, received confirmation and messages from the hotel, and even checked in with them that day to say I’d be arriving late. They replied, “sounds good, thanks.” Why confirm my stay and then give the room away? They could have let me know ahead of time. The receptionist, ICYSIS, was no help when I tried to sort it out. She kept interrupting me with things like “i just work here i don’t have answers” and “i don’t know i’m new,” then told me to call her manager. While I waited for the call, she talked to a colleague about needing to get her nails done and having two more shifts that week. I found that unprofessional in the situation, and her attitude was rude throughout the conversation. They still had no room for me despite the advance booking and same-day confirmation. I was stranded at 1:30 am and had to pay double for a last-minute room at another hotel down the street. Terrible service.

Lanisha made a real difference for my family during our stay. She was attentive and professional from the moment we arrived, and she often anticipated what we needed and helped without being asked. She was warm and efficient, and her positive attitude made the visit memorable and enjoyable for all of us. We really appreciated her care and think she deserves special recognition.
