Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis South/Greenwood

This was my second stay, and the rooms and staff have been great both times. Hampton Inns’ digital keys are convenient: I can check in on my phone and choose my own room. The location is good, with lots of places to eat nearby. I was mostly just in and out, so I didn’t try the hotel extras, but the stay was pleasant. I skip the paid breakfast and wish they offered an included continental option so I could grab some fruit for the road.

The room was quiet and clean, and the beds were really comfortable. Everyone on staff was professional and friendly, and check-in and check-out were quick. If we need to be in the area again, we’d stay here in a heartbeat.

We were disappointed with this stay. I booked a room with a jetted tub because my back was hurting, and the tub itself worked, but the water never got hot, not even lukewarm. I mentioned it at the desk and was told the hotel being empty was the reason. I could move rooms, but they wanted to confirm the new room had hot water first. The employee said she’d meet me there soon, but it was already well after 1am and I couldn’t face going through with it. Housekeeping also woke me twice, at 9:30a and again at 10:30a, knocking to ask if I’d checked out even though my do-not-disturb sign was on the door. Both times I explained I had late checkout until 12:30. A very poor experience.

The employees were friendly, helpful, and professional, though some front desk staff wore scrub tops, which felt less polished than I expected. I also noticed a few spending time on their phones while seated, instead of giving more attention to customer service. The lobby and entrance look updated, but the guest hallways and my room feel stuck in the late '90s or early 2000s. The room carpet looked worn, and the hallways felt dated. Breakfast and dinner weren't included, with only free coffee and water. The fitness center AC was out, and sharing the Home2 Suites next door or calling it a “hot yoga” workout doesn't solve that. As a long-time Hilton Honors member, I expected this Hilton Garden Inn to meet the standards I'm used to. It needs maintenance and updates to better match the brand and Hilton promise. I shouldn't have to spend more just to expect better.
