We stayed after Christmas as a family of four with our pup, and loved this dog-friendly historic inn. It was close to dog-friendly cross-country trails. Our cozy room off the lobby had puzzles, Catan, and free coffee by the fire, while the kids enjoyed the small arcade in the downstairs game room. The bar and dining area were great, too. I just wish the menu had more GF options. Several dishes I'd normally expect to be gluten free, like lamb shank, short ribs, and steak, weren't. It was a wonderful experience overall.

The lobby was beautiful, and the outdoor veranda had lovely views. We appreciated the bottled water in the room and the free cookies at check-in. New Hampshire gets ladybugs inside properties, and this one had them too. They didn't do anything about it, though I don't know if other local hotels had the same issue. There were problems with the rooms and service. The rooms felt dated and the property needs serious repairs. The windows had gaps, and the very old heating system ran constantly. Its lever was stuck, so there was no way to turn it off, but it was 24C outside and we had to leave the air conditioning on. We had dinner at the hotel. They'd run out of some dishes, and what we ordered was just okay. Our server was nice and our table had a great spot, but the floor was very dirty and would have taken two minutes to clean. In the morning, they were out of coffee. One staff member told us to get some from the breakfast room, then another scolded us for doing that. That was very rude.

We love Jackson, but we'll choose a different hotel next time. The location is beautiful, yet the service and guest experience don't seem like they used to be. Much of the hotel's charm seems to have disappeared with the renovations. There was no working elevator, which made things difficult and uncomfortable for guests with mobility issues. Staff didn't seem concerned about the hardship and didn't offer to move us to a room without stairs. Housekeeping was cleaning rooms next to ours until 7:30 pm. Our stay was nothing like it had been a year or two ago.

The views and porch were spectacular, and Max was an amazing mixologist. I really enjoyed the bar. The restaurant food was okay, but nothing special. It's a good spot for families with kids and people traveling with a dog, with a trail right there for a quick walk with my pup. We were here during one of the busiest weeks of the year. The staff were pleasant, and the room met expectations for a building of its age. The elevator was out, unfortunately, so we had to carry luggage up flights of stairs, especially hard on the senior citizens.

I remember the rooms and porch as they were, and the porch is still beautiful. But the lobby and dining area have lost all their historic feeling. The modern remodel is beautiful, but I didn't like it, and I heard several other guests say it made them sad. I could stay at a Holiday Inn for a beautiful, modern lobby and free breakfast for much less. The appeal of Eagle mountian house is gone for me. I grew up visiting Eagle Mountian house every summer. We loved the veranda and the historic charm, with signs of the past around every corner. We stopped going for a while because the veranda seemed to be closed off or used for weddings. Later, family grew up and many moved out of New England. My husband and I returned to NH often but, for whatever reason, didn't stay at the Eagle Mountian house, though we sometimes stopped in for breakfast. This past trip, we finally stayed.
