Old Hickory Inn Jackson

I wouldn't come back. The area was noisy and didn't feel very upscale, though there are several trendy bars close enough to walk to, so you can avoid risking a DUI. The room was clean but cheap, and the pillows were awful, so bring your own if you have to stay. The woman at the front desk, "red," was incredibly rude and nasty. She talked down to us and made us uncomfortable. We were too intoxicated to drive, or we wouldn't have stayed. Unless you're passed-out drunk, I don't think you'll sleep well.

The front desk clerk was very nice, and the large-screen TV was the one good thing in the room. We got a refund and moved on to the next exit, where the Red Roof Inn was $10 more and immaculate. We should have checked the king room before booking. The non-smoking room smelled, and the sheets had multiple cigarette burns. There were more burns on the blanket underneath, along with black stains. The bathroom was old, and the worn toilet seat had stains. I can't understand how a place can keep operating in this condition.

The woman who checked us in was awesome, helpful, and polite, even though she was about to finish her shift. The rest of the stay was rough. The beds were awful, the rooms were extremely loud, and the pool closes at 8, which is frustrating with kids when check-in isn't until 3. At breakfast, my wife was still in bed, so I went to get her some food. I got yelled at because guests can't take breakfast back to their rooms. If you can handle mostly rude staff, loud rooms, and morning staff yelling at you and taking food away while you're trying to get some, then here you go.

The staff were friendly and breakfast was good, but the Wi-Fi was poor and the bandwidth seemed throttled. I ended up in a smoking room, and by the time I'd unpacked it was too late to switch. The smell was so bad I woke with burning eyes and a sore throat. I'm a smoker, so that says a lot. The sheets and blankets had burn marks, and the bed felt like springs, very uncomfortable. Other reviews say the place needs updating, and I agree. The bathroom had broken fixtures, and the room was just dirty, though the maids did a good job. Everything in the room seemed older than me, except the TV, and every channel was fuzzy. There was a microwave and mini fridge.
