OYO Hotel Jackson MS Downtown

The sheets were clean, which is about the best thing I can say. The lobby smelled really bad when we came in, and if it hadn't been so late, we'd have gone to a better hotel. Worn, stained carpets and broken fixtures made the room unpleasant. There were no phones in the rooms, and the central heat and air didn't work. We didn't feel safe. Our window was cracked open, and we tried to wedge it shut. Not a pleasant stay. We won't be back and can't recommend it.

The hot shower changed my rating. The bathroom was typical, but the water pressure and temperature were better than I've had at some lower-priced hotels. A long, hot shower can really help your mood. We booked after arriving in Jackson MS while driving to New Orleans because I was tired. We only read reviews afterward and worried we'd made a mistake. The outside looked clean and the parking lot was fairly empty, which felt a bit sketchy, but check-in was fine and the clerk was nice. The lobby smelled strongly of weed, though our first-floor room nearby didn't. The room was clean and quieter than expected, with no noise until around 6am when there was some random banging. Decent enough for something quick.

I've stayed in cheaper places before that were at least clean. This was the nastiest place I've ever seen, and the worst $72 I've spent. It's supposed to be 100% smoke free, but the lobby smelled like a pot party as soon as I walked in. The TV didn't work. A deck of tarot cards and two packs of cigars were left in a drawer, and there were cigarette ashes in the nightstand. The tub drain was broken, and under the sink was an extra drain plug with a lot of white powder that looked like Sheetrock dust. How is this meant to be sanitized and clean?!

We couldn't stay. After getting a key and turning down the hallway, we found it flooded with water, enough to soak through our shoes. The room was dirty, the bathtub was brown, and the sheets had such a strong odor that I got a wave of it when I sat on the bed. I immediately picked up my toddler and left. We had to find another room late at night, which was incredibly frustrating while traveling with a small child. Don't recommend staying here. Drive another 15 minutes down the road to Pearl, which was much cleaner.
