The location is the main draw, on the way to popular tourist spots. It shares a small cul de sac with four house or cabin style rooms that look like they might have permanent residents, though it’s hard to tell. The rooms are huge but the bathrooms are tiny, and the rooms feel a bit dated. It was clean enough. Breakfast was really lousy, though I wouldn’t expect a big spread from this kind of mountain hotel, since places around here often lack nice amenities. It’s alright.

We’ve stayed here for years, and it still feels like a work in progress. The cabins are roomy, with a separate bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, which we like. They’re being updated with new floors, paint and bedding. The community room beside the pool is nicely done. It’s also conveniently located near downtown Jackson and on Highway 88 toward Tahoe.

The beds were firmer than I like, which was the main downside. Otherwise, this is a lovely little rustic lodge. The staff were welcoming, and the rooms and bedding were very clean. The furniture is somewhat dated, but it suits the lodge style. Our windows looked out onto a pretty wooded area, and the outdoor spaces were clean and well kept. They’re dog friendly, too.

We were looking forward to a swim and a good night’s sleep, so leaving was a real bummer. There were cockroaches, one running across the floor by the tub and another on the wall beside the sink. I showed the photo to the management office. They offered to move us, but I was too freaked out to trust another room. They refunded us, though they asked for a written statement, and we emailed the roach picture. Chris was kind and helpful when we booked and checked in. There were four of us in a family room but only two towels, and asking for more seemed to irritate him before he finally brought them. We’d only just returned from dinner and hadn’t used them yet. When we went to the office, another guest asked if we were having problems too. Chris understood and called his boss, but mentioned the towel request. In the parking lot, a different guest told me she’d also been treated rudely when asking for extra towels. The pool looked so nice in the photos, and I’d really been looking forward to it.

The owner manager was very nice, and I had a good night’s sleep. My room, 214, had clean sheets, hot water with good pressure, and a nice hot heater. I heard some rooms around me weren’t very nice, but mine was. Power had been out around Pioneer for about five days, and people were coming down from the hills because they couldn’t take it anymore. I was up there to take care of my mother-in-law. PG&E was also taking up rooms at the hotels and motels, and we couldn’t find anywhere to stay until I came across the Jackson Lodge. I can’t complain.
