Our first night is coming up, and I hope it goes well. We’re here for a week, so I may update this later. The staff have been exceptionally kind and attentive, genuinely good people, and our view of Snow King Mountain is beautiful. The building’s classic stonework is a lovely piece of history. At check-in we met one of the kindest receptionists I’ve encountered. Housekeeping has also been pleasant and accommodating. When we called for help, staff delivered comforters within ten minutes and offered a heater in case we needed one. Later, when the firm bed and squeaking springs were uncomfortable with my autoimmune joint issues, they brought a mattress pad within minutes. It didn’t make the bed comfortable for me, though they tried. There’s plenty to like in the bathroom: strong water pressure in both the shower and tub, lots of hot water, a separate toilet area for privacy during morning routines, high thread count linens, fluffy towels, and very comfortable robes. The bed had lovely high thread count sheets and an elegant Sherpa blanket, though the throws weren’t king-sized. The room has a beautiful view, but it felt cramped with our winter luggage. We brought two large suitcases each, and there was no dresser, so we had to leave the open bags lined up in the hallway to reach our things. The closet only had about ten hangers. The desk was warped, likely from water damage, which suggested the furniture wasn’t well maintained. At rates in the $600 range, I expected better. The mattress springs squeaked with movement, and the bed felt very firm, which is uncomfortable with my joint issues. The mattress pad didn’t help. So far I’d put the experience between three and four stars, and I’m choosing four. That reflects the worn furniture, tight space for winter bags, lack of a dresser, and mattress wear, balanced by the great location and kind staff. No older hotel is perfect, but furniture needs upkeep, and a good mattress matters for older guests and people with joint problems.

It’s a nice place in Jackson, with a spacious room, a comfortable bed, fireplace, and patio. The staff are exceptionally friendly, the gym is good quality, and the hotel is close to the town square. The carpet could use refreshing, and the shower door opens in a way that blocks the handle, making it hard to turn on the shower. I’d happily stay here again when I’m in town.

Jackson itself was lovely, so our mini honeymoon wasn’t completely ruined, despite the poor lodging and lack of response from staff. We booked partly for the restaurant and bar, but both were listed online as open and turned out to be closed. When we asked for recommendations, one staff member barely looked up from scrolling on her phone, with a leg propped on the desk, and said she couldn’t think of anywhere open. Plenty of places were open, and a few suggestions would have helped since the amenities we’d booked for weren’t available. Front desk staff being on their phones became a pattern, though we did meet some better staff during the stay. For the first two mornings, trucks unloaded in the alley beside our room at 6 a.m. One driver dragged his metal ramp down the alley to the next hotel. The beds and pillows were both rock hard. That alone might not have been a deal breaker if the other issues had been handled. We asked twice to talk to management. On the first day we were told “he” would be there the next day and given approximate hours. When we never saw him, we left our number, but nobody called. For similar prices, there are much better options in town.

The food was phenomenal as always, though I don’t think the service matches the price the way it used to. On our last visit we tried the Himilayan Salt Block, and it ruined a very expensive steak. This time, I watched nearby tables get sizzling steaks on salt blocks that looked overcooked. Unless you like steak well done, don’t pay $5 for the salt block. It may ruin your steak.

The evening started out in the hallway, which was a bit disappointing, but things turned around as dinner went on. Our server, Lilia, was the nicest and funniest ever and made the whole night. We laughed, cried, exchanged numbers, and promised to be friends forever. I had dinner here the other night and had to mention how awesome the service was. If you’re in town and want a great time with friends, I recommend asking for Lilia. She’ll lead the way to a wonderful evening. Thanks again.
