Rodeway Inn & Suites Jacksonville near Camp Lejeune

The room felt on its way to being condemned, yet they charged a $100 deposit, which is nearly twice the cost of one night's stay. I wouldn't stay again even if you paid me. This was the worst motel I've ever experienced, and I wouldn't recommend spending even half a night here. The room needed paint, the lamp fixtures were dirty, the safe looked filthy and like it was falling apart, and the ironing board had disgusting stains. There were holes in the sheets and blanket that looked like cigarette burns, and the curtains were torn and frayed. The AC barely worked, was filthy, needed a new filter, and appeared moldy. The bathroom was in bad shape too. The toilet only flushed if I held the handle down and tried at least twice, then it had to refill. Paint on the tub was peeling off in chunks, the showerhead was dirty and rusty, the ceiling had shoddy patchwork, and the sink area needed replacing. There were no towels when we checked in, so I had to ask at the front desk. I doubt the bathroom had been cleaned, since the toilet paper roll was empty and the mirror looked dirty, or maybe chipped and rusty, I couldn't tell. The TV didn't work at first. The receptionist said the box was behind it and to point the remote there, but that didn't help. After trying on our own, we saw the box wasn't even connected to the TV, so we had to plug it in. The outside doors didn't seem connected properly either. If I went out through one, my key card wouldn't get me back in, so I had to walk around to the front. The little things weren't great either: the continental breakfast was little more than cereal and fruit, and the tiny pool was closed while we were there. You get what you pay for, but this place costs way too much for how awful it was.

I'd strongly advise people to avoid this hotel. I booked one night, and that morning a very nice, helpful African American lady on staff told me my second night was confirmed and paid for. Then that afternoon I found out they hadn't processed the payment and had locked me out of my room with my belongings still inside. I tried to explain and get my things back, but the Manager, a heavy-set white woman, refused to let me into the room unless I paid $175. I felt like this was extortion and completely unethical. I had to pay just to retrieve my own property. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful, and took no responsibility for the misleading information. Worst hotel customer service I've ever experienced. It was a stressful, dishonest experience, and the price I paid just to get my suitcase back made it even worse.

Leaving five stars so people see this. The hotel was nasty. Our door was open when we went up, the pillows were strewn on the bed without cases, and they were dirty. The towels were yellow, and the whole place reeked of marijuana. I knew smoking was allowed, but didn't expect that kind of smoking. DO NOT STAY HERE! Hopper also doesn't tell you about the $100-150 deposit. You might as well stay in a trash can.

I hardly ever leave bad reviews, but this stay was really unacceptable. There was a strange smell that made it seem like the room hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. The room and common areas were well below basic cleanliness standards. When I arrived, the bedsheets were stained and there was dust on almost every surface.
