I grew up hearing older relatives talk about Skynyrd, and as someone into rock history and trivia, I like finding places with a story. I stumbled across this one when I wasn't even looking for it. I'd heard it's now an airbnb or some kind of short-term rental. Some people I've recently befriended told me stories about what happened there. One guy, whose identity I'm keeping anonymous, said Billy Powell was playing piano one day. He worked up the nerve to say hi, and they ended up jamming for a while before Powell asked him to get some 'grass' and 'female friend's. I'd love to check out the other house where they used to write music. I think it's near a lake or another small body of water, maybe just outside town. If anyone knows where it is, leave a comment. I wasn't born in that era, but I like to think I would've been friends with those people, haha.

We came to see Ronnie Van Zany's former home. It's now a private residence that can be rented as accommodation. For me, it was a chance to reflect and pay tribute to someone whose music has meant a lot to me over the years.

The stay was a real letdown, even though I was excited to visit as a rock history fan. The place felt run-down and poorly maintained, with a musty smell throughout. There was dust everywhere, cobwebs, and bedding that felt questionable. It seems they're charging premium prices on the Lynyrd Skynyrd name while neglecting basic upkeep and cleanliness. Save your money and just take a photo of the historical marker from outside.

We only made it through one night of our booking. If it hadn't been a busy weekend, or if we'd arrived before 11pm, we would've left right away. Retro can mean old-fashioned, but it doesn't mean dirty sheets, stained bedding, mold and mildew everywhere, noisy hours, broken or filthy kitchenware, no toilet paper, or appliances you can't use. The mold and mildew throughout the unit were ridiculous. The host was rude. He said everything had been perfectly clean when he watched his crew clean the day before, basically calling me a liar. He also claimed booking.com hadn't contacted him and that I hadn't sent proof, though the photos in this review are the same ones I emailed to the address he gave me. In response to the host: you said you'd left while the crew was cleaning and the place was in perfect shape. The photos clearly show mold and mildew on the AC unit, along with dirt that looks like it hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. You also said your crew would bring clean sheets and toilet paper, but they still hadn't done so by 9:45am. The other reviews may be five stars, but the photos speak for themselves. Whether booking.com contacted you is between you and them. I called them to cancel the rest of my booking and ask for a refund.

I happened to pass the house. It looked like a rooming house, nothing more, though there was a historic marker in front.
