Cobblestone Hotel and Suites Janesville

The river view from my room was beautiful, and the downtown location is perfect if you’re out for a night or celebrating and having a few too many nightcaps. I was impressed by how clean everything was, one of the cleanest hotels I’ve visited. I arrived Monday, so it was a little vacant, which meant more solitude for me. The front desk attendant was kind and explained everything clearly. My room was very spacious, with two TVs, a sofa, fridge, and safe, all the promised amenities, and they looked new and good quality. It smelled nice, too. On a cold night, I turned up the heat and could actually feel warm air coming out. It’s classy, and I’ll stay again on work trips to Janesville.

We were in town for basketball and had stayed at the hotel before as grandparents. The stay itself was fine. The trouble came after checkout: my wife left a necklace in the room, so she called, staff found it, and we returned more than three hours later to collect it. The desk didn’t mention any problem with our room when we picked it up. Then, two hours later, while we were driving home, we got a $263 credit card charge. The hotel said we were being charged for smoking marijuana in the room. What? We’re 70-year-old non-smokers who were in town for basketball. No way. After some discussion, they removed the charge, but it was very disturbing. Having read other comments about staff smoking, I wonder if it’s a staff issue. Guests, beware.

A roadside accident on I-90 brought us here. The front desk clerk was courteous and very helpful, and got us a great price for the night. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, and we liked the pillow selection. We ate at the restaurant inside the hotel and thought both the food and service were excellent.

We came from Georgia to visit my brother in Janesville. Our stay at Cobblestone three years ago was great, but this visit was awful. We asked for a King bed, and all the King rooms were next to the elevator, which was very loud, so we asked to move. They upgraded us at no extra charge, but the new room smelled musty and its window was blocked by an awning, so we couldn’t look outside. The bed squeaked and was lumpy and uncomfortable, and needs a new mattress. The towels were frayed and clearly old. The front desk was annoyed with us, except for one nice woman. Staff were smoking outside when we arrived and reeked of smoke. Breakfast was disappointing, and the hotel hasn’t been upgraded. I think the carpets need a deep cleaning. I suspect wedding parties get the better rooms, and that those are made sure to be spotless. I was VERY disappointed and won’t come back. The front desk was so unfriendly. Watch out for the bad beds and room smell, and check the room before taking it.
