Hampton Inn & Suites Jekyll Island

The room was really large and clean, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and we had a great stay. The hotel isn’t as close to the main attractions as some places, but there’s a shuttle if needed. When we visited, there was plenty of parking at all the attractions and sites if you chose to drive.

The hotel was nice and clean for the most part, but I won’t stay again. We were there Friday and Saturday nights, checking out Sunday, and never got a room cleaning, made bed, or fresh towels. When I mentioned the towel issue at checkout, the clerk asked, “did you request it.” I didn’t know I needed to request towels on a two-night, three-day stay. I thought that was understood. At check-in, the WiFi was down and the front desk apologized. They wanted us to write our card information on a piece of paper, which we refused. On Saturday evening we called to arrange late checkout and confirmed 12:30 with the front desk. Yet at 11:07, room service walked in while we were packing.

The pool and breakfast were good, and the room itself was nice. After a bad start, the seafood smell from two leftover boxes in the fridge cleared while we were out for the day. Jess at the desk apologized when we checked in. We had booked this two-night February getaway to Jekyll Island with our kids, ages 8 and 9, choosing the hotel for the price and hot tub. The tub was out of order that first night, which was disappointing since it was a main reason we booked. It was fixed the next day, so we decided to extend our stay. The last night ruined it. At about 10:15 p.m., our key cards stopped working while our children were asleep in the room. Jess said a handyman had to come from Brunswick and she didn’t know how long it would take. She offered no urgency, empathy, or solution. After more than 40 minutes without an update, my husband called police because he was worried about the kids. The officers agreed we were calm and justified. The handyman arrived around 11:15, and fixing the failed door system took 30 minutes. I was visibly shaken by Jess’s insensitivity and unprofessionalism. It seemed she didn’t want to do her job, communicate, or reassure us we’d get back into our room that night. It was pathetic. Worse, Jess tried to have us trespassed, but the officers declined. Management gave no apology or compensation at checkout, just more attitude. The property has potential, but the lack of professionalism and emergency protocol means we won’t return.

We chose this hotel for how easily we could get to the beach, and that worked out well. After an early breakfast, we took a walk there. They welcomed us as silver members, though we had to ask to get the complimentary bottled water. Room service was good, and they brought us a crib around 9 pm. We had a good stay and would consider coming back.
