The location is a big part of the appeal here, and the price felt like good value compared with other Holiday Inns. It’s an older place, but it’s been kept up and updated. Our suite on the second floor had two beds facing the street and a living room opening to an oceanfront balcony. The beds were comfortable, the room and balcony were clean, and waking up for sunrise to see the view and hear the waves was wonderful. The south side has clear views from the second floor, so that’s a good choice if you want more privacy and a better outlook. I was here alone for work, though there were lots of families around. There’s a large pool, a playground, bikes to use, and the beach right nearby. It’s pet friendly, too. The onsite 24 Coastal Grill was very nice. I did notice some carpet stains, and the ice machine is a bit of a trek, up above the lobby. Nothing seemed concerning, though. It’s not the Westin or the Jekyll Island Club, and it doesn’t pretend to be. For a clean, convenient Holiday Inn with what you need, I thought it was a great value.

We found the setting wonderfully quiet and restful. We stretched out in a huge upholstered shelter outside and meditated to the sound of the ocean. This was our first visit to Jekyll Island, and the warm welcome from Kim at the lobby set a great tone. The food was wonderful, from our dinner at the restaurant, one Shrimp and Grits and one Crab Cake sandwich, to the complimentary coffee at sunrise and a good breakfast before checkout. Our server was attentive, and we enjoyed chatting with the manager. We’ve stayed at Holiday Inns around the country, and this property’s service was the best we’ve had.

We borrowed the cruiser bikes and spent an evening in the hot tub, both of which we enjoyed. Every morning we used our free coffee coupons, and Lynda, who serves the coffee, was such a friendly addition to the staff. The hotel was very clean, too. We stayed for a week in the off season after booking well ahead, so I’m pretty sure we got the best room in the place. It was spacious, with two picture windows looking out over the ocean. A fantastic five-star stay.

The ocean side of the property is stunning, even though the curb appeal when I pulled up wasn’t the best. That’s what made it feel like a hidden gem. I’d never been to the island, and had planned to walk into a couple of places to see what they were like, but the warmth here won me over. The staff treated us with so much respect and hospitality, with that charming, old-school Southern feel. The front desk lady, who I think was the manager, was named Caroline, and she made us feel right at home. It was my daughter’s birthday, and everyone made her feel special. They let her pick the movie and really made her day. The food was great, too. I’ll definitely stay here every time I come to the island.

An older complex, but it’s very nicely kept. The beach is close, there are lots of walking paths, and there’s plenty to do. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it for a pleasant getaway. Bring your dog, too, they’ll love it.
