Super 8 by Wyndham Jonesboro

I was close to the area where both of my events were, and groceries and stores were convenient to get to. The neighborhood didn’t seem sketchy to me, despite what one review said. The bed was comfortable, the water got hot, the staff were nice, and breakfast was standard. Sure, there were a couple of bugs, but the hotel is being renovated and people bring little critters into hotels. One or two isn’t a million. The mostly bad reviews make this place sound worse than it was.

The beds were clean and reasonably comfortable, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless the alternative is sleeping in your car. Check-in took an hour because they hadn’t received our Booking.com reservation. The manager seemed very nice, as far as we could understand, but the location felt sketchy and I wouldn’t go out after dark. Breakfast was toast and jelly, so don’t expect a continental spread. There’s no elevator, and after loading our bags onto a cart, we had to take everything back off and carry it upstairs. The hall was dirty, with cigarette butts on the stairs and overflowing trash cans. The bathroom sink had burn marks and sat below my thigh, a good height for my five-year-old, while the showerhead pointed straight at my face. The fridge still had the previous guests’ leftovers and barely cooled. Outside, there was a butcher block with feathers and blood around it, which I hadn’t been told about and found surprising. When we came back for night two, our key needed reprogramming.

This place felt dirty and poorly cared for, and the rooms smelled like weed and cigarettes. I travel a lot, and this was bottom of the barrel. We moved to the Hilton Garden Inn about 200 yards away. The rooms here are cheap, and Duck Hunters stay for the trailer parking. We’re avid duck hunters too, but clean, comfortable rooms matter more to us than parking. Sorry, but that’s my honest review.

The room looked nice and the staff seemed inadequate, but the worst part came that morning at checkout. I turned on the lights and saw cockroaches scatter. Management needs to deal with that. It’s a huge reason I wouldn’t come back.
