Motel 6 Joplin

It cost somewhere around seventy dollars a night, and there wasn’t even a pillow on the bed. I also noticed what seemed like criminal activity and some concerning behavior from other guests. I’d never stayed here before.

I was hesitant to stay after reading the reviews, but I was stranded with a blown transmission and the customer service staff helped me park since I had no reverse. I was coming back from NH with only gift certificates and a little cash, and they let me pay cash without a deposit, which worked perfectly. After I got on the interstate, the transmission failed completely, so I knew where to stay until I could sort it out. I stayed three nights and paid $50 for the weekend rate without hesitation. The room was clean, and the maid service helped with what I needed during the stay. It had free internet, a mini fridge, and microwave, while other local places charged extra for those. For someone traveling and needing a place to sleep, it’s conveniently close to the interstate. At $45 flat for one queen bed, you can’t expect the Ritz or a wonderfully accommodating room. Other motels advertised one price, but when I called to reserve, the prices weren’t as posted and I got routed to an out-of-state third party. My only complaint was the lights above the bed rattling whenever a neighboring room slammed its door. I banged on the wall, and it stopped for the rest of my stay.

The room itself was basic, which was okay for one night, but it stayed loud all night. The floor was spotless. The shower floor looked questionable, the bathroom fan didn’t work, and the built-in chair was coming loose from the wall. They made up the room early the next morning even though we’d only booked one night, and I wondered why they didn’t wait until we left so the used sheets could be taken off for the next guest. At check-in, the clerk acted as if we were bothering him. We were third in line, and he treated everyone with the same quiet disinterest. He never said a word, just looked at us and handed over the key.

The motel’s outside appearance was a little scary, run-down and kind of like a place you could pay by the hour. Inside, our nonsmoking room was immaculate and nicely updated. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and the fridge was clean and working. We booked two nights for a wedding and another room for our daughter and her friends for one night. For the price, it was a good choice. The pool looked clean, and we’d have used it with more time. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and we walked to Sonic for dinner one night and went to the ice cream place across the street.
