We paid extra for a fridge, but it was broken and staff said nothing could be done. The front desk offered either to leave without any guarantee of a refund, or take bedding and make the bed ourselves. We chose the bedding because we couldn't risk losing the $220 we'd spent and also pay for another hotel. We had booked a king for July 25-27, a two-night stay, but got two double beds. There were no towels or bed linens in the room. It was filthy: we had to clean the toilet seat and sink, the floor was wet, and one bed had a huge yellow stain. Avoid this hotel.

When I came back from work, my key no longer worked. Once I got inside, it looked like someone had been in the room, sleeping or searching for something. The mattress sheet was pulled back on one side, and there was a pop bottle on the floor, so they must have gone into the fridge. Thankfully I hadn't left my luggage there. The front desk sounded surprised when I reported it. I transferred back to the other location because I couldn't trust this place that night. A former employee later told me people were often found in rooms there, among other strange things, and said she had video. I don't know how anyone got in. I found the room through a good Priceline deal. I'd been staying at the Baymont West location for work and had a decent experience, so I expected something similar. As soon as I pulled in, there was a group of homeless people and junkies near the parking lot. I later heard they lived under a bridge behind the motel. I only dropped food in the room because it had a fridge, then went back to work without my bags. The room was worse than the one at the other location: the couch looked curbside, the sheets had stains, the bathroom seemed sketchy, and the place felt worn and dirty. I'd stayed in rough motels to save money on work trips, but this was too much.

My friend and I left within 15 minutes of arriving because we felt so unsafe. As we walked from the elevator on the second floor, a man followed us and kept talking almost all the way to our room, so we hurried inside and locked the door. The room didn't match the pictures and smelled strongly of cigarettes. We could barely breathe, though I tried to tell myself it was just one cheap night. When we later headed to my car, the men came out of their rooms again. We got in and knew we couldn't stay. When we arrived, men gathered around my car, holding phones. I don't know who they were waiting for. My friend and I got out carefully and went to check in. The front desk employee was friendly and polite, and the lobby was nice. Going back for our things, we saw the men open their door again, so we kept our distance and went inside. I moved the car around back where they couldn't see us, collected our things, and checked out. I explained what happened to the kind desk employee. She asked whether the men had physically done anything; they hadn't, though they surrounded my car and one followed us toward the room. I got a refund. I booked because it cost $69 and the pictures looked good, and I should have read the reviews. Please watch your surroundings. I urge people not to stay, especially women alone. I'd rather sleep in my car at a Loves than risk being trafficked. The nice staff were the only good thing. Please spend the money on a safe hotel.

After I showed photos of the blood and roaches and raised the other problems, all I got was an apology, though I had hoped they might offer some consideration or compensation. I've stayed at several Baymont hotels before and always been happy, but this one needs a huge remodel. It should be razed and started over. The first room smelled strongly of smoke. When I flushed, the toilet tank leaked badly and flooded the bathroom, so I complained and was moved next door. That room had dead roaches under the sink by the bathroom, and blood on the bathroom door and frame. Its deadbolt didn't work. The heater blew cold at 68 degrees, then was sauna-hot at the next setting. The TV had no cable connection. The power had been off, so maybe that was part of it, but the previous room and lobby had cable. There was no coffee maker, just packets, and the lobby vending machine was broken. The outside hallways were so dim I nearly tripped over bicycles left there. The bed was very uncomfortable, sloping toward the side that seemed most used. This was by far my worst hotel stay in 40 years of extensive business travel. Edit: I saw another review from four months earlier and attached the reply. Wyndham said it wasn't a hotel, apologized for the confusion, and promised to update its website and booking partners. Four months later, it was still being advertised as a hotel.

I am requesting a full refund for my August 1-2, 2025 stay at the Baymont by Wyndham in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The room was not habitable, and the conditions were a health and safety hazard. I have photos and video of the issues and can provide them. I expect a satisfactory response within 7 business days. If I don't receive one, I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau, Michigan Department of Health, and Wyndham Corporate, and post detailed reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, Yelp, and social media. There were also people loitering in stairwells, hallways, and near guest rooms throughout the hotel. Several appeared to be under the influence. At night they were noisy and made me feel unsafe. I saw open drug use near the side entrance and repeatedly had to ask front desk staff to intervene. The bathroom was unusable. The tub was clogged with hair, bits of trash, and soap scum, and a cockroach came out of the drain. I also saw roaches in the hallway near the elevator. The room was in poor repair: plaster was cracked and crumbling, paint peeled, and several handles were broken or loose. The bathroom door wouldn't close properly. The beds were made, but both had visibly used, stained sheets with discoloration and body fluid marks. Bathroom towels were crumpled, unwashed, and smelled of mildew. A half-used mouthwash bottle had been left on the sink. The toilet contained stale urine and smelled as though it had been sitting there a long time. It was revolting and made clear to me the room hadn't been cleaned or inspected properly. This was far below Wyndham's stated standards for cleanliness, safety, and professionalism. I believe I'm entitled to a full refund. The reservation details listed Guest Name: Micheal Jennings, Confirmation Number: [Insert Confirmation Number]. The letter was signed Micheal Jennings.
