Knights Inn Kalamazoo

The rooms were about what you'd expect at a motel this cheap, but I didn't expect the atmosphere to be so awful. A man at the desk spoke to me through a hole in bulletproof glass, which should have been clue one. People yelled all night, from 11 pm to 8 am. Either the walls were paper-thin or they were incredibly loud. Around 4 am, someone peeled out of the parking lot, and we thought gunfire might follow. Worst place I've ever stayed, hands down. That's the last time I try to save a buck.

I booked at the last minute and got a great price. The rooms were what I expected for such an affordable place. They're okay, though definitely not a 4 Star hotel. The wifi was great, the staff were friendly, and there was surveillance around the clock. I enjoyed staying here and would consider coming back if I'm in the area.

The employees were nice and helpful, but I'd never stay here again. Pulling in, it looked like a stereotypical 'seedy motel' from a TV show, with people wandering around the lot drinking from brown paper bags. On our first night we heard someone get tazed in the parking lot. Our door didn't lock right unless we jiggled the handle and checked it, and the room smelled like it had been smoked in. It was so loud we could hear everything in the lot, but we were afraid to leave the windows open to air out the smoke.

We were told our king room had been oversold and got "upgraded" to one with two queens. The hallway and room reeked of stale cigarette smoke, and both beds had stained sheets. In the bathroom, an open bar of soap was sitting on the toilet, with no toilet paper or tissues anywhere. That was enough of a walkthrough for us. We went straight to the desk and quickly got a refund. Clearly, we weren't the first guests to leave within five minutes. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy.
