Best Western Plus KC Speedway Inn & Suites

I was glad to find a room late at night after my flight was delayed. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, I felt safe, and parking was easy to get to. The coffee was hot and breakfast was adequate, though I would’ve liked healthier choices. The property has a lot of potential because of its location, but it didn’t feel like the advertised four-star place. The harsh blue-white lighting, around 4,000-5,000 K, made the space feel like a parking lot security area. The bulbs varied from place to place, creating a polka-dot effect: blue-white in the hallways and rooms, warmer and more comfortable 2.700-3000 K lighting at the front desk. Replaced bulbs varied too. Consistency matters for a polished appearance. The room was dim enough that I used my phone flashlight as a bedside lamp. The room was too hot. As another reviewer mentioned, there were no instructions posted or given to explain that the controls only work on the wall unit. The shower head was so high I’d have needed a chair to adjust its spray, and the toilet was uncomfortably short, like one from a child’s bathroom. The so-called “luxury linens” were microfiber, seriously hot and unbreathable. The decor was Tuscan and badly in need of an update. I can’t imagine paying NASCAR-event prices for this experience.

The rooms need a serious update, and some basic things aren’t working. Our room was 85°, and only after calling the front desk did we learn to use the controls on the wall unit. The wall thermostats don’t work, so I’m not sure why they’re there. The TVs also have no streaming or online features like other Best Western Plus hotels I’ve stayed at. The pool is closed by order of the health department, and the elevator was apparently shut down at some point by the fire Marshall. There are even handmade safety signs. There is EV charging, but the single charger behind the hotel has no way inside except walking all the way around to the main entrance. The side doors won’t open with key cards and only work as exits from inside. Charging costs $25 a night, which is absolutely insane for guests. It seems like such a great hotel location, but this place needs help. Figure it out!

The hotel was clean, quiet, and friendly, and the staff made me feel comfortable and welcome. When my semi truck was stuck in the shop and I needed to extend my stay, manager Ms Teressa greeted me with a lovely smile and helped with whatever I needed. On Monday, Nik checked me in with a smile and a great personality. I had the best customer service during my stay. I’ll definitely come back if I’m in the area again. Thanks for all you do, it’s appreciated!

I was here for my 50th birthday, and they put a smile on my face. The balcony room was beautiful, and breakfast was so good, especially the Biscuits and Gravy. The owner Cash was amazing. Thank you so much……Mona Lisa ❤️
