Embassy Suites Kansas City Plaza

It was a useful stop for our one day on a cross-country drive. The hotel has an interesting look, a bit like an Italian villa, and there's an arcade tucked into a corner. Our first room smelled like someone had smoked in it, but when we asked to switch, they moved us right away without any fuss. Breakfast was standard, with a limited selection, but it did the job. The pool looked great, though it was closed for maintenance during our visit.

I've enjoyed staying here. The beds are always comfortable, and the rooms are clean, though sometimes they have an odd smell. The rooms and restaurant are dated, and the restaurant is just okay. The TV is hit or miss: sometimes you get a nice one, other times it looks like it hasn't been touched since 2010.

The bed was very nice, and we slept comfortably. The carpet looked old and dingy, but it was fine, and the room did the job. I didn't use the pool, though it looked nice. At breakfast, there was fresh fruit, sausage, and waffles, but I found two flies in my coffee. The omelette station closed a few minutes early, and the staff weren't very nice about it. Cleaning staff knocked on our door three times before 11 AM. The fridge freezer was unusable because of ice buildup, and when I told the staff, they just shrugged.

The building needs better cleaning throughout and an upgrade. The carpets need replacing both in the rooms and outside them, and mine had stains. My room was neat and the bed was comfortable, but I couldn't use the hair dryer because its plug was broken. I called the front desk, but nobody ever answered. For what they charge, I was disappointed. I didn't take pictures, though I really wish I had.
