Courtyard Kansas City Country Club Plaza

We were in town for a wedding and had a wonderful stay. Our flight got in very early, and they found us a room that was ready instead of making us leave our bags and wait around. On Sunday, they also kindly extended checkout to 4 pm when we asked to store our bags before the flight and spend some time downtown. The room was spacious, the staff were accommodating, and the location was really convenient.

The staff were pleasant, but there were a lot of hassles during our four-night stay. The ice machine on the fifth floor never worked, and one of the elevators was out for two days. After 10 pm, we couldn't get in from the parking lot because our key cards wouldn't open the door. The desk didn't respond, and another guest eventually helped us. The air conditioning ran nonstop without ever really cooling the room. They need to fix a lot of these issues.

The rooms are spacious, but the hotel needs attention. Half the elevators were out, and our room never cooled properly. The air vents looked like they weren't being maintained or cleaned, and the room had a damp, musty smell. I coughed all night, which was not good.

The Plaza is right on the hotel's doorstep, with shops and restaurants only about a two-minute walk away, yet the location didn't make the stay feel noisy or disruptive. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating that looks over a park, a nice place to spend time with people. I also liked the historic architecture. Since it used to be an apartment building, the walls are thicker than in many hotels, and I slept quickly without being disturbed by noise. Parking takes some figuring out, but there's a paid garage and plenty of nearby street spaces. It doesn't have every extra, but it covers the basics. Staying in a hotel in my own city after a long vacation or road trip was an interesting way to end the trip.
