Holiday Inn Kansas City - Northeast

Breakfast was a mess. The person restocking the plastic utensils grabbed the eating ends with bare hands, then set them down upside down. A kid who’d coughed into their hand could have touched every end people eat from. The lack of cleanliness and training made for a terrible stay. The room smelled awful, and one of those air scrubbers had been left in it when we arrived. Paint was peeling, the light fixtures were rusty, and the carpet was dingy. I’m pretty sure animals had peed on it. For cleanliness and rooms, this was on the level of a hotel 6. You couldn’t pay me to return to a comfort inn. Avoid it at all costs.

The front desk staff are very nice and polite, and this is a very clean hotel. The breakfast food is nice too. Veronica works so hard, talks with people, and is very kind. Even when breakfast is closing during a busy time, she doesn’t rush to shut it down. She wants everyone to get something to eat first. Sushi is also very nice and polite, and such a sweet girl. Princesa, the young lady at breakfast, is quiet but works hard, keeps the area clean, and always refills the food. Vj, the hotel manager, is very nice to the staff. I heard he gives good points to people who are loyal customers. Vishwa, one of the night audit guys, is very nice and helpful too. And I can’t forget Cosmo, the dog at the front desk. She’s so cute, and I love her hair and eyes. I love staying at this hotel. Everything is close, including fast food places, a grocery store, and a bank. I’ll be here until November and will miss everybody. I’ll come back in January. Five stars and a thumbs up for everyone here. I recommend this hotel to everybody.

On November 14 we left around 9 a.m. to see family and didn’t get back until after 10 p.m. Our room hadn’t been serviced at all: trash was still in the bins, the wet towels we’d left in the bathroom were still there, and there were no clean towels. At checkout on the 15th, I mentioned it to the front desk, and the response was that we should have called for towels. That isn’t my job. I paid for a service I expected to receive. Our first day, November 13, was fine with no complaints. We stayed through November 15, but we won’t stay here again.

I travel for work every week and usually use reviews to find a dependable place, so I’d hoped for a better stay. The staff were fine, but dark stains on my comforter made the room feel less clean than I want when I’m on the road. I also noticed several homeless people around the parking lot and entrance. I understand the situation, but it made the property feel a bit less secure for me as a solo traveler.
