The view from our room was fantastic, and there was more lounge seating upstairs on the mezzanine, where it was comfortable. The lobby itself had plenty of space to sit and catch up with friends or colleagues, but at 4 degrees outside, the doors kept opening and letting in the cold. The rooms were clean and nicely equipped.
I wouldn't stay here again. My wife and daughter got in after 10 pm Saturday because their flight was delayed. The night manager wouldn't honor my points reservation because I wasn't traveling with them. I've booked plenty of rooms for my wife and kids without going along, but he said he was protecting me from fraud. I confirmed who I was, and he still refused, despite my Platinum Elite status. She had to use our company credit card, which is a Marriott card, and that payment was accepted. Then the toilet kept running all weekend, and the room lost hot water Sunday night. The phone didn't work, so they had to walk down to the front desk each time they needed to report something. Don't stay here.
The Club Level lounge was closed over the weekend, so we got vouchers for Spectators instead. The food and service there were fantastic, much better than I expected from a hotel restaurant. We also had a decent club breakfast and great city views from our room. My family and I were in town for a quick two-day trip and the Chappell Roan concert at the WWI Museum on Friday. The Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center was an easy walk from the venue and close to everything in Crown Center. We used the clean pool and gym Friday morning to relax before the show. I travel for work a lot, but this was my first stay here with family. It's a convenient spot with solid amenities, and I'd come back next time I'm in Kansas City.
We spent about half an hour at the expo before the crowd and garage mess drove us out. People were packed in shoulder to shoulder, getting pushed along with the flow. We could barely visit most booths, and sweat was dripping on us from people pressed all around. It was a nightmare. Getting in had already taken 40 minutes after the doors opened, and there was no way to turn around once inside the garage. Leaving was even worse: it took 1.25 hours, with only one entrance and exit open during that stretch. Then staff told us to pay $32 on the way out, more than the expo ticket. Nothing said parking would cost money, no ticket or sign was provided, and we had even asked the woman at the entrance whether parking was free. This was on a Saturday, though not a federal holiday, and I think the venue may have let in or sold tickets to too many people, with too few parking options. They could have opened other garage entrances and exits. My complaint is about the venue, not the expo itself. I strongly recommend avoiding expos at this venue.
The hotel itself is very nice, but in winter or summer the room won't warm past 72 degrees. I assume the temperature cap is meant to save money, and women end up suffering for it. The windows are airtight and the air just recirculates in the room, so I worry about how quickly CO2 builds up. Between that and the lack of fresh air, I'd choose an Airbnb, even if you're left freezing.
