We expected an upscale resort stay at The Grand Hotel in the middle of Kennebunkport, with the amenities that come with $500 a night. Instead, we had a smallish king room and no one to help with luggage or parking. The room's AC mini split could only be controlled with its remote, which didn't work, and there was no hotel staff on site to address it. The bathroom fan rattled and vibrated like a rusted, noisy Motel 6 fan, but didn't clear the steam. The lobby, halls, and rooms smelled of old, decaying fish, likely from the first floor sushi restaurant. Based on that smell, we weren't going to eat there. Around 9pm, loud EDM dance music started coming from somewhere in or just outside the hotel, and kept us from falling asleep around 10pm. Again, there was no evening staff to help. On Sunday at 7:30 am, housekeeping spent an hour outside our room banging carts into our door and the hall walls. At checkout I asked the front desk person for the manager's business card or email. She didn't have either, but said she could probably pass along a note on paper. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're after a grand experience.

My fiance and I had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel for our special occasion. The staff went above and beyond and made the night so special. They had a huge part in making it unforgettable, and it's a memory we'll always keep. I can't thank them enough. We'll definitely be back.

The hotel was beautiful and in a great location, and we loved the balcony. Breakfast was good, though it could be better. The rooms were nicely decorated, but we ran into several issues across the two we reserved. The shower bottles of soap, shampoo, and conditioner were completely empty in both rooms, and one bathroom had only a partial roll of toilet paper with no extras. We left the 'service please' sign on one door, but nothing was done in the room. The sheets could also be softer, since they were scratchy. Having front desk staff on site for more of the day and evening might help improve some of these things.

The room itself was lovely, and we could easily walk into town. But for what we paid, I expected more. We upgraded for a view and balcony, only to find the balcony tiny, without a chair, and barely separated from the neighbors. There was also a shared second-floor balcony with a table and chairs, which the website never mentioned. The loud live music from the bar across the street went on all weekend. We were glad to be at the far end of the hotel, though we still heard it clearly. The sushi restaurant downstairs also left the lobby smelling strongly of fish. Keeping its lobby door closed would help. The bed linens were very thin, and there were no extras in the closet. With no front desk after hours, we couldn't ask for more. For beach towels, we had to go out of our way to the sister hotel. At over $400 a night, there should be at least a couple in the room. I also couldn't figure out what the $20 resort fee covered beyond the bikes, since there weren't other amenities. Breakfast was fine as a start to the day, but nothing special. I don't normally write reviews, but wanted to be honest about our stay. The location and room were nice, yet after looking around afterward, I found better options for less.

The hotel and staff were nice, but they told us our kids were too loud and that we couldn't come back. We had a horrible experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to families with children.
