Comfort Inn Riverside near UCR and Downtown

The room had a comfortable, clean king bed, but it looked old, the carpet smelled odd, and the TV was dated. It was quiet, and breakfast was good: make-your-own waffles, eggs, sausage patties, bread, English muffins, bagels, three juices, and coffee. The office staff were nice, though it felt odd that they watched people the whole time in the breakfast area. They required a $100 card deposit or $200 cash, returned at checkout when you turn in the room key. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and a bar of soap were provided, along with a microwave and refrigerator that worked well.

My family was visiting me in Riverside, so I booked them a room. At check-in, they were told there was no hot water. Why couldn’t they have said that by email or phone before my family arrived? It’s ridiculous. I’d recommend staying anywhere else, truly anywhere. A Motel 6 is about the same quality and might even save you a couple of bucks.

It’s been almost a month and my $100 deposit still hasn’t been returned to my bank account. The room itself was fine, and breakfast was good. I recommend the homemade waffles you make yourself.

My daughter and I stayed two weeks in room 143. It was quiet and we weren’t disturbed, and the front desk staff were nice and accommodating. Still, I regret not asking to move rooms or for a partial refund because there were a lot of problems. Our feet turned black from the hardwood floor as soon as we checked in. Room service never came by. The one time I asked for a little cleanup and fresh linens and towels, the worker used a wet towel from the bathtub to mop, missed corners, and didn’t use any cleaning solution or disinfectant. Our feet kept getting dirty, so my daughter spent most of the stay on the bed. Most outlets were loose, and the paint in the tub kept chipping onto my child’s skin during baths. The tub wouldn’t drain properly, and I had to keep the faucet running so my daughter could get half a bath. For two weeks, the water was cold unless you bathed after midnight. The desk warned us, but it was never fixed, and we don’t shower that late. I expected hot water for what I paid each day. The bathroom had no ventilation because the switch was broken. The exhaust fan was right by the shower head and covered in grime. The shower valve came off several times when I tried to turn it, and the hair dryer got hot enough to burn my hand and fingers while I used it. There were quite a few homeless people around, sometimes sleeping in front of the doors. One day I saw a man empty the trash in front of our room and stay there going through it, including dirty diapers and old food scraps I’d thrown out. A worker eventually got him to leave, but the trash was left on the ground for hours. With a toddler and being very pregnant, I had to stay on guard.
