Hampton Inn Keokuk

I paid $293.33 for two nights and had a nice stay. Everything I needed was less than five minutes away, and I'd stay here again. Staff were attentive and kind, and both check-in and check-out were easy. The free breakfast was small but nicely laid out. The room was decently clean, though it had a faint smell; there were plenty of pillows, blankets, and towels. Water pressure felt a little weak to me, but temperature control was very good and could get quite hot. The walls and floors are thin, so I could hear a lot, especially in the morning.

Such a tiny room, haha, but I only came to sleep and it had a fridge and shower, so that was enough. It was quiet, which I liked. I love being able to check in and out myself through the Hilton app. That always keeps Hilton high on my list.

We booked two nights in October seven months ahead for a family road trip, and Hampton Inn sent a confirmation the day before arrival. After driving all day with our two kids, we showed up tired and looking forward to the pool. The employee couldn't find our reservation at first, then located it and said a computer glitch, which he blamed on Amazon, had canceled it earlier that day. He said other guests were affected too, and because the hotel was overbooked, someone else had taken our room. We hadn't been told anything, and we still haven't received a message, apology, or anything else. They didn't try to rebook us or find a solution; he just said the Quality Inn down the street had rooms, said he couldn't help, then went and hid in the room behind the front desk. Quality Inn had a room for that night but not the next. Once we checked in, we learned its pool was closed, which really disappointed our kids. We then had to spend the evening finding another place for the next day. Between the two two-star hotels, we paid more than we originally would have for both nights at Hampton Inn. The whole thing left me with a very bad impression of Hampton Inn and the reliability of its reservation technology. I'll avoid them in the future.

I travel here for work often and had stayed at this location about 25 times over two years, including 16 visits in the past 12 months. In May, I had a bedbug incident in room 200 and treated it as a one-off, since there aren't many hotels in the area and this place is seen as one of the best, if not the best, in town. But I had another bedbug incident last week. Two incidents this year make it seem like the hotel has a problem. I'll stay in Burlington or Quincy from now on, and I'll check carefully for bedbugs wherever I go.
