We spent a week here and got around on foot the whole time, even at 69. The location made that easy. The place has plenty of local character, which is what we liked, though it doesn't offer every modern feature of a big corporate hotel. It's an older property, but clearly cared for. The paint looked fresh, everything was clean, and staff seemed to be tidying or maintaining some part of the place whenever we looked. They fixed our soap dispenser promptly, washed down the saltwater pool area each morning, and cleaned the pool bathrooms several times a day. The pool and its bar became a favorite place to unwind. If a flashy resort is what you want, this may not suit you. For a comfortable, local-feeling place that's looked after with care, it worked very well for us. We'd encourage people to support places like this instead of the expensive corporate hotels. And if you prefer the big polished chains, that's fine too, just choose one that fits you rather than leaving this place a bad review for being what it is.

Donna at the front desk was incredibly accommodating, and the rooms were clean. We felt safe during our stay. The free breakfast on the patio was adequate, and the location made it convenient to get around Key West. The plumbing could use an upgrade, though it's an old historic home, so that's understandable. We'd stay here again if we're back in the area.

Breakfast was a real letdown for us coming from Europe. There were only a few choices, and they used paper plates, so there's room to improve there. We liked staying in the Honeymoon King room, which has a bit of a South American feel. The bed was softer than we prefer, and there was some noise at times from neighboring rooms and planes. Parking was easy enough to find one or two streets away, close to the hotel.

The rooms felt a little cramped for four adults, but it was worth it. The staff at The Palms were fantastic, friendly, and accommodating, and nightlife and beaches were just a quick Uber ride away.

That king room's shower was the tiniest I've ever seen, and it wasn't relaxing to use. Duval Street was also a bit of a hike. Still, the pool was nice, happy hour was reasonably priced, and both the property and rooms were clean. The staff and service were great, so we had a positive stay.
