Travelodge by Wyndham Outer Banks/Kill Devil Hills

The beach access is super close, and the room was clean. Staff were friendly, professional, and accommodating, and the price was great. We'll stay again.

The location is the one real plus, right across from public beach access. The rest of our stay was rough. The building had a musty smell, possibly from the animals staying on the first floor, and housekeeping didn't come in for basic service. We had to track down staff for fresh or replacement towels and to get the garbage taken out. The carpets looked as if they hadn't been vacuumed or cleaned in years, with crumbs and dirt left by previous guests, so I kept my shoes on. There was visible mold on the shower walls, and bathroom paint was peeling. The whole place needs serious TLC. The Wi-Fi was so bad I couldn't connect any device all week. The pool looked cloudy, and all the chairs were disgusting. If you only want a cheap hotel and don't care about cleanliness, this may suit you, but anyone with cleanliness standards should look elsewhere. A few hours after I wrote this, we found cockroaches. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

We were really happy with the reasonable price and easy check-in. The room was clean and had space for our things, and the hotel is an easy walk to the ocean. A comfortable bed matters a lot to me, and this one delivered.

The pool was probably the best part of the stay, and both it and the rooms were clean. The short walk to the ocean was very convenient, and most of the front desk staff were sweet and accommodating. One man at check-in seemed tired, or as if he didn't want to be there. I've stayed at worse hotels, and there were definitely some positives. Maintenance is a big issue. The bathroom needs remodeling: water sprayed past the shower curtain and soaked the floor, and the faucet wasn't fully attached to the wall. The elevators felt a bit sketchy and need work to run more smoothly. For the price, I also expected more amenities. There's no breakfast or guest laundry. I used 30,000 points for one night, and despite the nice ocean proximity, the overall stay didn't feel worth that many points given the limited amenities and upkeep. For the night I paid for, I got only 2,142 points, which seemed low next to a 30,000-point redemption. The hotel wasn't all bad, and the location is fantastic, but better maintenance and more amenities would make the cost and points feel worthwhile.
