We'd been there for only 10 minutes and hadn't even reached our room when the front desk evicted us, following the manager's accusation that we'd been loud and smoking marijuana in the parking lot. We weren't loud and don't smoke pot. We tried to explain that there had to be a mistake, but nobody listened, and they refused to refund us. Being kicked out at such a bad time to find another room felt like being robbed. The manager seemed drunk or high, maybe both, and too messed up to sort out what had happened. This place has potential, and I hope the owners realize how the staff are hurting the reputation of this iconic location and the future of the innocent owners. The warm room and working cable TV made me feel like the happiest man on earth. After four days without power, I booked a last-minute stay during the stressful February 2020 freeze in Texas. The hotel being able to take guests was a blessing for me. I'd also booked a stay for my mother there about a year earlier, and that had gone well too. I recognized Denis at the front desk, and he explained right away that the pipes were frozen. After four days of freezing, that wasn't a deal breaker. The room was neat and warm, with a large flat-screen TV. There was a small puddle by the window where I assume a pipe had leaked, and someone came to look at it, so it was clearly being worked on. I asked for towels, and a woman brought me warm towels and sheets that seemed fresh from the dryer. When I got a text the next day that my power was back, I checked out early hoping for a refund, though I understand that's not guaranteed. I was grateful for the hospitality during such a stressful time. It was a much-needed place of solace. I thought I'd posted this review earlier, but must have forgotten. Denis deserves a fair and honest review, even a late one.

The hotel closed in summer 2023. I had booked three rooms in spring 2023 for a pre-eclipse stay on April 7, 2024, but when we arrived it was deserted and padlocked. OYO charged a full-price cancellation fee, though fortunately that has since been refunded. OYO didn't seem to know the hotel was closed, since welcoming emails kept arriving.

Don't stay here. Our room wasn't clean at check-in, and the mini fridge still contained food from the previous guests. The freezer had so much ice buildup that nothing could fit in it. More than once, front desk staff seemed to forget we were guests and asked for my name and room number, and whether I had a room there, before checking their system and letting me use the only working elevator. They immediately charged a $50 deposit to my debit card and said it would be refunded at checkout. When I left, the desk said it would take a day or two. More than two weeks later, they're saying 14 business days, so they keep more than the nightly room rate for over two weeks. If you must stay, pay the deposit in cash and insist on getting cash back when you leave. Nobody should stay here.
