Holiday Inn Express Kitty Hawk Outer Banks by IHG

It was quiet at night, everything was clean and the place seemed well run. The rooms are a bit older, but everything worked. We stayed one night in the off season, and breakfast was very good with lots of choices. I’d stay again.

The food arrived fresh and well prepared, and our server’s recommendation turned out to be excellent. I was new to the area and wanted to try somewhere local for dinner, and this was a great choice. There were plenty of options on the menu, and the place felt lively without being overwhelming. The staff were friendly as soon as I walked in, which put me at ease in a town I didn’t know. It was a welcoming first taste of the local dining scene.

Emily and Shannon at the front desk were wonderful, and the room was clean and comfortable. It’s well placed for heading south to Nag's Head or north to corolla. Breakfast gets crowded, but the morning crew worked well together and kept everything stocked. We’ll gladly stay again.

After we settled into room 227 for five nights, we found a shower curtain and tub floor covered in disgusting mildew. The smell lingered, and it was a gross disappointment after reading earlier reviews that said the place was very clean. The hotel also had that damp smell you might expect in a beach area. The pool was closed after someone puked in it the night before. It was cleaned and refilled, then developed a leak, and after another refill it was freezing cold, so we never used it. The location is good at the northern end, with a short walk to beach access. The room was a decent size, modern, with a quality bed, and breakfast was a nice typical hotel spread. Front desk staff across the board weren’t too friendly. I don’t need a hug in the lobby, but a little warmth would be nice. Also, who designs hotel bathrooms with doors that block the toilet? Overall, the stay was acceptable.
