The Hillside Hotel

This place is a total dump, and I’ve stayed in plenty of dumps. This one takes the gold medal. Mice everywhere, mold and mildew smell, plumbing that works hit or miss, and no WiFi or cable TV. The mattresses are hard and seem to be every age, with maybe $15 worth of sheets and toppers. The health department should close it down. It’s a disgrace to hospitality. I wouldn’t let a dog stay here.

I felt at home here, and the calm, spotless surroundings made the whole stay relaxing. The staff were friendly and quick to take care of what I needed. The front desk gentleman deserves a special mention: he was welcoming, helpful with questions and requests, and gave recommendations that really added to my trip. It’s a well-kept hotel with lovely service, and I’d happily return next time I’m in the area.

We should have read more reviews before booking. The nearby liquor store is about the only saving grace, if you need a drink to get to sleep. This place is a dump. Apart from changing the bedding, I’m not sure the rooms get cleaned. The floors were sticky, the bathroom walls were moldy, and the outlets looked like a fire hazard. The lampshades and curtains were gross, like someone had been using them as napkins. It’s a convenient location and could be cute with some effort, but I can’t recommend it. I’d sleep in my car before staying here again.

The staff made the stay feel relaxed and homey, and their service was outstanding. Everyone seemed cheerful and quick to help with whatever I needed. A special shout-out to the front desk gentleman, who was friendly and ready to answer questions or handle requests. His warm welcome and efficient help got the stay off to a great start.
