I left quickly that morning and wouldn’t stay here again. The woman at the desk seemed angry, and I barely spoke to her. When I checked in late on October 20, a young woman was friendly and let me check in my pets. The next morning, October 21, I had no phone and asked the senior representative if I could make a quick call on the office phone because I didn’t want to use the hotel phone for privacy reasons. She loudly replied, “No, sounds like a personal problem!” Later, while I was checking out, she told staff, including the cleaning ladies, that I was evil. She didn’t know me, so I wondered if it might be discrimination. She seemed like the manager, a tall, large blonde woman. After reading other reviews, I think it was probably Melissa. If you’re looking for hospitality, I’d tell people to keep driving.

I wouldn’t book here. The hotel was extremely dirty, with mold in the showers and beds that hadn’t been swept or cleaned underneath. The manager was disrespectful and accused me of smoking marijuana in my room, but refused to look inside. I called the police, and they said the odor was coming from the hallway, not my room. I wasn’t smoking marijuana there. She wouldn’t listen to what I had to say, kicked me out, and blocked me from other hotels in the area, so I couldn’t keep working. Since it’s privately owned, there’s no HR number to call when I tried to complain.

The room wasn’t clean, and the heat made for a miserable night. It was already late after a long drive when we arrived, and check-in itself went smoothly. Our room was fairly priced, but it smelled bad, felt stuffy, and was extremely hot. The old air conditioner barely blew cool air, so I slept with a cold washcloth on my forehead and couldn’t use the bedding. By morning it was even hotter. I also found someone else’s belongings and old food under the bed after I dropped something there. The hotel needs renovation, and there’s no elevator, so we had to carry our bags up to the second floor. La Grande doesn’t offer much, and I’d rather stay in Pendleton or at the Casino. Definitely disappointing, and I don’t recommend this place.

We paid $145 for one night in a one-bed room, and the place clearly needs serious work and a proper cleaning inspection. There’s no elevator, either. We checked in around mid-March 2025 and always inspect the room before unpacking. Lifting the bottom sheet revealed a mattress cover covered in debris and yellow stains. My husband asked the desk for a solution, and the girl offered fresh bedding but didn’t seem to know what a mattress cover was. Once we stripped the bed, we saw that the mattress itself was heavily yellow-stained too. We probably should’ve changed rooms or left, but it was nearly midnight and we were traveling with a sick baby and a dog. At checkout the next day, I asked to speak to the manager about the cleaning, but he wasn’t available. The woman at the desk refunded $20.
