Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lafayette IN

I'm pretty sure Patrick Henry's first draft said, "Give me liberty, or give me a stay at the Lafayette Days Inn!" The surprises started with the two identical rooms we'd booked right next to each other. For some reason, they had different prices. After dropping our bags off, we got stuck in the elevator on the way back down. I called for help, but they were more interested in getting my contact details for the rewards program. I asked several times for someone to get us out, and they kept asking for my email. When I finally reached the desk in person, the guy said the elevator sometimes stops when weight is unevenly distributed. They could restart it with the circuit breaker, and if that didn't work, call the fire department. He said this was "normal." We used the stairs for the rest of our stay, even though we were on the top floor. We parked near the side doors to use the stairs. Those doors had key card scanners, but none would close all the way, no matter how hard we pushed or pulled. A room on our floor also had a big chunk of wood missing from the outside of its door. In the bathroom, the shower head looked like the same one I had at home 30 years ago and as if it had never been cleaned. The toilet flushed by itself at random, and there was hair all over the floor. Room service only swapped out the towels and washcloths, and the "new" towels had brown stains. The 80-grit washcloths might come in handy for the big hole in the drywall that the bathroom door handle had obviously made. Breakfast was barely breakfast. I joked that maybe the eggs would be liquid or powdered, but even that turned out to be an unrealistically high expectation. There were no eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, bagels, muffins, or anything like that, just sliced bread and cereal. I'll give them credit for one thing: the cereal labeled Raisin Bran was decent, whatever it actually was. It wasn't Raisin Bran. This place is an experience all by itself, with some surprise around every corner and no way to know what comes next. I'm sure we missed plenty during our short stay, so choose this Days Inn and give yourself a week to fully experience the breathtaking ineptitude of its management. Highly recommended.
