Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa

My stay at the Lafayette Park Hotel was pleasant until checkout. My room was clean and comfortable, and most staff were helpful and accommodated my requests. Breakfast was below average. The two people who left me with an unpleasant impression were Melinda and a heavyset man who may have been the manager, slightly balding. I had no issues with the other staff. About an hour before checkout, I went to the desk because I'd extended my stay the day before and needed my key reactivated to get my things and check out. Two women were checking in, an older man was waiting, and I lined up behind him. The check-in involved a long conversation and joking. I stepped out briefly to update my Lyft driver, then came back to the same situation. The associate helped the man ahead of me when she asked if she could assist him quickly, then went back to the check-in without acknowledging me or saying she'd be with me soon. I finally explained that I only needed my key reactivated. The heavyset male staff member said he couldn't help and that I had to wait, even though I'd seen another guest get quick assistance. Everyone being helped ahead of me appeared light-skinned or white, and they seemed to get more attention and urgency. I felt dismissed and deprioritized, like my time and needs mattered less. As a paying guest, I expect the same courtesy as others. As a Black woman, I know basic self-advocacy can be unfairly labeled aggressive or rude, but I was only asking for a routine task so I could gather my belongings and leave without delaying my ride. Asking for ordinary decency shouldn't be dismissed. People of color often notice differences in tone, service, and urgency because these experiences aren't uncommon. The difference in how assistance was offered felt inequitable and reflective of bias, conscious or unconscious. Hospitality should mean equal respect for every guest, regardless of skin color. We all deserve the same service and dignity; equal treatment shouldn't be conditional. The heavyset man was nasty and dismissive when he said I had to wait longer.

I've been getting massages here for years, though I've never stayed overnight. The therapists and front desk staff are wonderful, and the atmosphere is so relaxing. You can sit by the pool and order a meal before or after your massage. I'd love to stay here someday.

I've photographed several weddings and an anniversary celebration at Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa, and it's always been a lovely experience. The property has plenty of ceremony and reception setup options, giving couples lots of flexibility and variety. Staff are consistently kind, accommodating, and easy to work with, which helps each event run smoothly. It's a charming venue with excellent service and lots of photo opportunities. Highly recommend!

The rooms are spacious, the facilities are great, and the decor feels tranquil. Staff were courteous, and check-in was quick with no wait. I'd definitely come back.
