The manager is why I wanted to write this review. I called twice before arriving and he patiently answered all my questions. Once we got there, he treated us like VIPs and knew the area so well he was almost like a concierge. After we checked out, he even went above and beyond to help with another issue. That kind of service was a lovely surprise at a small motel with a really good rate. You can walk to McDonald's, Steamboat Bill's, and Checkers Burgers from here. We were staying for the Tour Lafitte and mainly needed a bed and shower, so the room suited us. Nothing special, good or bad. The bed was comfortable, the shower pressure was very strong, and the quiet AC kept the room comfortable without making it too hot or cold. Parking is right outside, though it’s parallel parking and the driveway is narrow.

I’ve stayed here twice, four months apart, and they remembered me, which impressed me. It’s a basic place, but the rooms are comfortable, clean, and bigger than many budget hotels, with a microwave and fridge. The parking is well lit and right in front of the room. I had breakfast once, just cereal, juice, and coffee, which was fine by me. I haven’t tried the pool. It’s a handy stop on an I-10 road trip, and I’d stay again. About the review saying someone was robbed, I don’t feel like this is that kind of area. Maybe it was an isolated incident.

The owners seem to spend the day working on repairs, but the place still has a lot of problems. The building is run down, there are roaches, and I found various hazards in the rooms. Random people who aren’t guests drive around the lot at all hours looking to sell stolen items. It can be hard to get the front desk’s attention, though when you do reach someone, they’re very nice. Prices are about $63 after tax for one full-size bed or $320 a week for two queens, which seems steep for what you get.

The room was cheap and clean, which was just what I wanted. It’s no Waldorf, but I was very satisfied. Andy at the desk was super nice and gave us good dinner suggestions. I found the place through Motel Coupon, checked it out after reading TripAdvisor, and slept great. There were lots of good TV channels, the AC worked perfectly and quietly, and I liked being able to park right beside my door.

We’ve stayed at Knights Inn in many places and have never had such a hard time. The night clerk was rude, and they wouldn’t honor our CDL discount. Our rooms were low quality, with stained furniture and only one pillow on the king bed. When we asked for extra towels and another pillow, they refused. A scorpion-like creature was in one room, and the night clerk didn’t seem concerned. The shower pressure was very low, so a garden hose would’ve worked better, and the water was scalding even when turned halfway on. Their website and ads say there’s truck and bus parking, but I didn’t see anywhere a truck or bus could park. The motel is in a very bad neighborhood, and there’s no in-room safe or good locks on the doors. If we travel through the area again, we definitely won’t stay there, and we won’t recommend the Knights Inn of Lake Charles, LA to friends or family.
